神向你所要的是甚么

¹²“以色列啊，现在耶和华—你　神向你所要的是什么呢？只要你敬畏耶和华—你的　神，遵行他的道，爱他，尽心尽性事奉他，And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹³遵守他的诫命律例，就是我今日所吩咐你的，为要叫你得福。and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?

¹⁴看哪，天和天上的天，地和地上所有的，都属耶和华—你的　神。Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.

¹⁵耶和华但喜悦你的列祖，爱他们，从万民中拣选他们的后裔，就是你们，像今日一样。Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day.

¹⁶所以你们要将心里的污秽除掉，不可再硬着颈项。Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more.

神不以貌取人，怜爱寄居的

¹⁷因为耶和华—你们的　神—他是万神之神，万主之主，至大的　神，大有能力，大而可畏，不以貌取人，也不受贿赂。For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe.

¹⁸他为孤儿寡妇伸冤，又怜爱寄居的，赐给他衣食。He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing.

¹⁹所以你们要怜爱寄居的，因为你们在埃及地也作过寄居的。So you also must love the foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

要敬畏神，专靠祂

²⁰你要敬畏耶和华—你的　神，事奉他，专靠他，也要指着他的名起誓。You are to fear the LORD your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name.

²¹他是你所赞美的，是你的　神，为你做了那大而可畏的事，是你亲眼所看见的。He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome wonders that your eyes have seen.

²²你的列祖七十人下埃及；现在耶和华—你的　神使你如同天上的星那样多。”Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

记念神大能的作为

¹“你要爱耶和华—你的　神，常守他的吩咐、律例、典章、诫命。You shall therefore love the LORD your God and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.

²你们今日当知道，我本不是和你们的儿女说话；因为他们不知道，也没有看见耶和华—你们　神的管教、威严、大能的手，和伸出来的膀臂，Know this day that it is not your children who have known and seen the discipline of the LORD your God: His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm;

³并他在埃及中向埃及王法老和其全地所行的神迹奇事；the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;

⁴也没有看见他怎样待埃及的军兵、车马，他们追赶你们的时候，耶和华怎样使红海的水淹没他们，将他们灭绝，直到今日，what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;

⁵并他在旷野怎样待你们，以致你们来到这地方；what He did for you in the wilderness until you reached this place;

⁶也没有看见他怎样待流便子孙以利押的儿子大坍、亚比兰，地怎样在以色列人中间开口，吞了他们和他们的家眷，并帐棚与跟他们的一切活物。and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.

⁷惟有你们亲眼看见耶和华所做的一切大事。”For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.

守诫命，就能进去得地

⁸“所以，你们要守我今日所吩咐的一切诫命，使你们胆壮，能以进去，得你们所要得的那地，You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,

⁹并使你们的日子在耶和华向你们列祖起誓、应许给他们和他们后裔的地上得以长久；那是流奶与蜜之地。and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.

迦南是神眷顾之地

¹⁰你要进去得为业的那地，本不像你出来的埃及地。你在那里撒种，用脚浇灌，像浇灌菜园一样。For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.

¹¹你们要过去得为业的那地乃是有山有谷、雨水滋润之地，But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.

¹²是耶和华—你　神所眷顾的；从岁首到年终，耶和华—你　神的眼目时常看顾那地。It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.

顺从就有秋雨春雨

¹³“你们若留意听从我今日所吩咐的诫命，爱耶和华—你们的　神，尽心尽性事奉他，So if you carefully obey the commandments I am giving you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹⁴他（原文是我）必按时降秋雨春雨在你们的地上，使你们可以收藏五谷、新酒，和油，then I will provide rain for your land in season, the autumn and spring rains, that you may gather your grain, new wine, and oil.

¹⁵也必使你吃得饱足，并使田野为你的牲畜长草。And I will provide grass in the fields for your livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.

¹⁶你们要谨慎，免得心中受迷惑，就偏离正路，去事奉敬拜别神。But be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside to worship and bow down to other gods,

¹⁷耶和华的怒气向你们发作，就使天闭塞不下雨，地也不出产，使你们在耶和华所赐给你们的美地上速速灭亡。or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.

把神的话存在心内

¹⁸“你们要将我这话存在心内，留在意中，系在手上为记号，戴在额上为经文；Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

¹⁹也要教训你们的儿女，无论坐在家里，行在路上，躺下，起来，都要谈论；Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

²⁰又要写在房屋的门框上，并城门上，Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,

²¹使你们和你们子孙的日子在耶和华向你们列祖起誓、应许给他们的地上得以增多，如天覆地的日子那样多。so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to give your fathers.

脚掌所踏之地都必归你们

²²你们若留意谨守遵行我所吩咐这一切的诫命，爱耶和华—你们的　神，行他的道，专靠他，For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—

²³他必从你们面前赶出这一切国民，就是比你们更大更强的国民，你们也要得他们的地。then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.

²⁴凡你们脚掌所踏之地都必归你们；从旷野和黎巴嫩，并幼发拉底大河，直到西海，都要作你们的境界。Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.

²⁵必无一人能在你们面前站立得住；耶和华—你们的　神必照他所说的，使惧怕惊恐临到你们所踏之地的居民。No man will be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the fear and dread of you upon all the land, wherever you set foot, as He has promised you.

祝福与咒诅摆在面前

²⁶“看哪，我今日将祝福与咒诅的话都陈明在你们面前。See, today I am setting before you a blessing and a curse—

²⁷你们若听从耶和华—你们　神的诫命，就是我今日所吩咐你们的，就必蒙福。a blessing if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today,

²⁸你们若不听从耶和华—你们　神的诫命，偏离我今日所吩咐你们的道，去事奉你们素来所不认识的别神，就必受祸。but a curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

基利心山与以巴路山

²⁹及至耶和华—你的　神领你进入要去得为业的那地，你就要将祝福的话陈明在基利心山上，将咒诅的话陈明在以巴路山上。When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

³⁰这二山岂不是在约旦河那边，日落之处，在住亚拉巴的迦南人之地与吉甲相对，靠近摩利橡树吗？Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh?

³¹你们要过约旦河，进去得耶和华—你们　神所赐你们为业之地，在那地居住。For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you. When you take possession of it and settle in it,

³²你们要谨守遵行我今日在你们面前所陈明的一切律例典章。”be careful to follow all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today.

约翰出生

⁵⁷伊利莎白的产期到了，就生了一个儿子。When the time came for Elizabeth to have her child, she gave birth to a son.

⁵⁸邻里亲族听见主向她大施怜悯，就和她一同欢乐。Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they rejoiced with her.

命名为约翰

⁵⁹到了第八日，他们来要给孩子行割礼，并要照他父亲的名字叫他撒迦利亚。On the eighth day, when they came to circumcise the child, they were going to name him after his father Zechariah.

⁶⁰他母亲说：“不可！要叫他约翰。”But his mother replied, “No! He shall be called John.”

⁶¹他们说：“你亲族中没有叫这名字的。”They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who bears this name.”

⁶²他们就向他父亲打手式，问他要叫这孩子什么名字。So they made signs to his father to find out what he wanted to name the child.

⁶³他要了一块写字的板，就写上，说：“他的名字是约翰。”他们便都希奇。Zechariah asked for a tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.

撒迦利亚开口称颂神

⁶⁴撒迦利亚的口立时开了，舌头也舒展了，就说出话来，称颂　神。Immediately Zechariah’s mouth was opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak, praising God.

⁶⁵周围居住的人都惧怕；这一切的事就传遍了犹太的山地。All their neighbors were filled with awe, and people throughout the hill country of Judea were talking about these events.

⁶⁶凡听见的人都将这事放在心里，说：“这个孩子将来怎么样呢？因为有主与他同在。”And all who heard this wondered in their hearts and asked, “What then will this child become?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.

撒迦利亚的预言

⁶⁷他父亲撒迦利亚被圣灵充满了，就预言说：Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

⁶⁸主—以色列的　神是应当称颂的！因他眷顾他的百姓，为他们施行救赎，“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and redeemed His people.

⁶⁹在他仆人大卫家中，为我们兴起了拯救的角，He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David,

⁷⁰正如主借着从创世以来圣先知的口所说的话，as He spoke through His holy prophets, those of ages past,

⁷¹拯救我们脱离仇敌和一切恨我们之人的手，salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us,

⁷²向我们列祖施怜悯，记念他的圣约—to show mercy to our fathers and to remember His holy covenant,

⁷³就是他对我们祖宗亚伯拉罕所起的誓—the oath He swore to our father Abraham, to grant us

⁷⁴叫我们既从仇敌手中被救出来，deliverance from hostile hands, that we may serve Him without fear,

⁷⁵就可以终身在他面前，坦然无惧地用圣洁、公义事奉他。in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our lives.

孩子要在主前面预备道路

⁷⁶孩子啊！你要称为至高者的先知；因为你要行在主的前面，预备他的道路，And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him,

⁷⁷叫他的百姓因罪得赦，就知道救恩。to give to His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

⁷⁸因我们　神怜悯的心肠，叫清晨的日光从高天临到我们，because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high,

⁷⁹要照亮坐在黑暗中死荫里的人，把我们的脚引到平安的路上。to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

约翰在旷野长大

⁸⁰那孩子渐渐长大，心灵强健，住在旷野，直到他显明在以色列人面前的日子。And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until the time of his public appearance to Israel.
