1约阿施登基的时候年七岁，在耶路撒冷作王四十年。他母亲名叫西比亚，是别是巴人。Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba.
2祭司耶何耶大在世的时候，约阿施行耶和华眼中看为正的事。And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3耶何耶大为他娶了两个妻，并且生儿养女。Jehoiada took for him two wives, and he had sons and daughters.
4此后，约阿施有意重修耶和华的殿，Some time later, Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
5便召聚众祭司和利未人，吩咐他们说：“你们要往犹大各城去，使以色列众人捐纳银子，每年可以修理你们 神的殿；你们要急速办理这事。”只是利未人不急速办理。So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not make haste.
6王召了大祭司耶何耶大来，对他说：“从前耶和华的仆人摩西，为法柜的帐幕与以色列会众所定的，你为何不叫利未人照这例从犹大和耶路撒冷带来作殿的费用呢？So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
7（因为那恶妇亚她利雅的众子曾拆毁 神的殿，又用耶和华殿中分别为圣的物供奉巴力。）For the sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into the house of God and had even used the sacred objects of the house of the LORD for the Baals.
8于是王下令，众人做了一柜，放在耶和华殿的门外，At the king’s command a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9又通告犹大和耶路撒冷的百姓，要将 神仆人摩西在旷野所吩咐以色列人的捐项给耶和华送来。And a proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they were to bring to the LORD the tax imposed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.
10众首领和百姓都欢欢喜喜地将银子送来，投入柜中，直到捐完。All the officers and all the people rejoiced and brought their contributions, and they dropped them in the chest until it was full.
11利未人见银子多了，就把柜抬到王所派的司事面前；王的书记和大祭司的属员来将柜倒空，仍放在原处。日日都是这样，积蓄的银子甚多。Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
12王与耶何耶大将银子交给耶和华殿里办事的人，他们就雇了石匠、木匠重修耶和华的殿，又雇了铁匠、铜匠修理耶和华的殿。Then the king and Jehoiada would give the money to those who supervised the labor on the house of the LORD to hire stonecutters and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, as well as workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the LORD.
13工人操作，渐渐修成，将 神殿修造得与从前一样，而且甚是坚固。So the workmen labored, and in their hands the repair work progressed. They restored the house of God according to its specifications, and they reinforced it.
14工程完了，他们就把其余的银子拿到王与耶何耶大面前，用以制造耶和华殿供奉所用的器皿和调羹，并金银的器皿。耶何耶大在世的时候，众人常在耶和华殿里献燔祭。When they were finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and with it were made articles for the house of the LORD—utensils for the service and for the burnt offerings, dishes, and other objects of gold and silver. Throughout the days of Jehoiada, burnt offerings were presented regularly in the house of the LORD.
15耶何耶大年纪老迈，日子满足而死。死的时候年一百三十岁，When Jehoiada was old and full of years, he died at the age of 130.
16葬在大卫城列王的坟墓里；因为他在以色列人中行善，又事奉 神，修理 神的殿。And Jehoiada was buried with the kings in the City of David, because he had done what was good in Israel for God and His temple.
17耶何耶大死后，犹大的众首领来朝拜王；王就听从他们。After the death of Jehoiada, however, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and he listened to them.
18他们离弃耶和华—他们列祖 神的殿，去事奉亚舍拉和偶像；因他们这罪，就有忿怒临到犹大和耶路撒冷。They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and idols. So wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.
19但 神仍遣先知到他们那里，引导他们归向耶和华。这先知警戒他们，他们却不肯听。Nevertheless, the LORD sent prophets to bring the people back to Him and to testify against them, but they would not listen.
20那时， 神的灵感动祭司耶何耶大的儿子，他就站在上面对民说：“ 神如此说：你们为何干犯耶和华的诫命，以致不得亨通呢？因为你们离弃耶和华，所以他也离弃你们。”Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He has forsaken you.’”
21众民同心谋害撒迦利亚，就照王的吩咐，在耶和华殿的院内用石头打死他。But they conspired against Zechariah, and by order of the king, they stoned him in the courtyard of the house of the LORD.
22这样，约阿施王不想念撒迦利亚的父亲耶何耶大向自己所施的恩，杀了他的儿子。撒迦利亚临死的时候说：“愿耶和华！”Thus King Joash failed to remember the kindness that Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead, Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying, Zechariah said, “May the LORD see this and call you to account.”
23满了一年，亚兰的军兵上来攻击约阿施，来到犹大和耶路撒冷，杀了民中的众首领，将所掠的财货送到大马士革王那里。In the spring, the army of Aram went to war against Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people, and they sent all the plunder to their king in Damascus.
24亚兰的军兵虽来了一小队，耶和华却将大队的军兵交在他们手里，是因犹大人离弃耶和华—他们列祖的 神，所以借亚兰人惩罚约阿施。Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment was executed on Joash.
25亚兰人离开约阿施的时候，他患重病；臣仆背叛他，要报祭司耶何耶大儿子流血之仇，杀他在床上，葬他在大卫城，只是不葬在列王的坟墓里。And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left Joash severely wounded. His own servants conspired against him for shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
26背叛他的是亚扪妇人示米押的儿子撒拔和摩押妇人示米利的儿子约萨拔。Those who conspired against Joash were Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
27至于他的众子和他所受的警戒，并他重修 神殿的事，都写在列王的传上。他儿子亚玛谢接续他作王。The accounts of the sons of Joash and the many pronouncements about him, and of the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son Amaziah reigned in his place.
