1約瑟伏在他父親的面上哀哭，與他親嘴。Then Joseph fell upon his father’s face, wept over him, and kissed him.
2約瑟吩咐伺候他的醫生他父親，醫生就用香料薰了以色列。And Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So they embalmed him,
3薰屍的常例是四十天；那四十天滿了，埃及人為他哀哭了七十天。taking the forty days required to complete the embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
4為他哀哭的日子過了，約瑟對法老家中的人說：「我若在你們眼前蒙恩，請你們報告法老說：『When the days of mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please tell Pharaoh that
5我父親要死的時候叫我起誓說：你要將我葬在迦南地，在我為自己所掘的墳墓裡。』現在求你讓我上去葬我父親，以後我必回來。」my father made me swear an oath when he said, ‘I am about to die. You must bury me in the tomb that I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.’ Now let me go and bury my father, and then return.”
6法老說：「你可以上去，照著你父親叫你起的誓，將他葬埋。」Pharaoh replied, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.”
7於是約瑟上去葬他父親。與他一同上去的，有法老的臣僕和法老家中的長老，並埃及國的長老，Then Joseph went to bury his father, and all the servants of Pharaoh accompanied him—the elders of Pharaoh’s household and all the elders of the land of Egypt—
8還有約瑟的全家和他的弟兄們，並他父親的眷屬；只有他們的婦人孩子，和羊群牛群，都留在歌珊地。along with all of Joseph’s household, and his brothers, and his father’s household. Only their children and flocks and herds were left in Goshen.
9又有車輛馬兵，和他一同上去；那一幫人甚多。Chariots and horsemen alike went up with him, and it was an exceedingly large procession.
10他們到了約旦河外、，就在那裡大大地號咷痛哭。約瑟為他父親哀哭了七天。When they reached the threshing floor of Atad, which is across the Jordan, they lamented and wailed loudly, and Joseph mourned for his father seven days.
11迦南的居民見亞達禾場上的哀哭，就說：「這是埃及人一場極大的哀哭。」因此那地方名叫，是在約旦河東。When the Canaanites of the land saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a solemn ceremony of mourning by the Egyptians.” Thus the place across the Jordan is called Abel-mizraim.
12雅各的兒子們就遵著他父親所吩咐的辦了，So Jacob’s sons did as he had charged them.
13把他搬到迦南地，葬在幔利前、麥比拉田間的洞裡；那洞和田是亞伯拉罕向赫人以弗崙買來為業，作墳地的。They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave at Machpelah in the field near Mamre, which Abraham had purchased from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.
14約瑟葬了他父親以後，就和眾弟兄，並一切同他上去葬他父親的人，都回埃及去了。After Joseph had buried his father, he returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone with him to bury his father.
15約瑟的哥哥們見父親死了，就說：「或者約瑟懷恨我們，照著我們從前待他一切的惡足足地報復我們。」When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph bears a grudge? Then he will surely repay us for all the evil that we did to him.”
16他們就打發人去見約瑟，說：「你父親未死以先吩咐說：『So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Before he died, your father commanded,
17你們要對約瑟這樣說：從前你哥哥們惡待你，求你饒恕他們的過犯和罪惡。』如今求你饒恕你父親 神之僕人的過犯。」他們對約瑟說這話，約瑟就哭了。‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I beg you, please forgive the transgression and sin of your brothers, for they did you wrong.’ So now, Joseph, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
18他的哥哥們又來俯伏在他面前，說：「我們是你的僕人。」His brothers also came to him, bowed down before him, and said, “We are your slaves!”
19約瑟對他們說：「不要害怕，我豈能代替 神呢？But Joseph replied, “Do not be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
20從前你們的意思是要害我，但 神的意思原是好的，要保全許多人的性命，成就今日的光景。As for you, what you intended against me for evil, God intended for good, in order to accomplish a day like this—to preserve the lives of many people.
21現在你們不要害怕，我必養活你們和你們的婦人孩子。」於是約瑟用親愛的話安慰他們。Therefore do not be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones.” So Joseph reassured his brothers and spoke kindly to them.
22約瑟和他父親的眷屬都住在埃及。約瑟活了一百一十歲。Now Joseph and his father’s household remained in Egypt, and Joseph lived to the age of 110.
23約瑟得見以法蓮第三代的子孫。瑪拿西的孫子、瑪吉的兒子也養在約瑟的膝上。He saw Ephraim’s sons to the third generation, and indeed the sons of Machir son of Manasseh were brought up on Joseph’s knees.
24約瑟對他弟兄們說：「我要死了，但 神必定看顧你們，領你們從這地上去，到他起誓所應許給亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各之地。」Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely visit you and bring you up from this land to the land He promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
25約瑟叫以色列的子孫起誓說：「 神必定看顧你們；你們要把我的從這裡搬上去。」And Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath and said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”
26約瑟死了，正一百一十歲。人用香料將他薰了，把他在棺材裡，停在埃及。So Joseph died at the age of 110. And they embalmed his body and placed it in a coffin in Egypt.
