羅波安接續作王

³¹所羅門與他列祖同睡，葬在他父大衛城裡。他兒子羅波安接續他作王。And Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son Rehoboam reigned in his place.

百姓求減輕重軛

¹羅波安往示劍去，因為以色列人都到了示劍，要立他作王。Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king.

²尼八的兒子耶羅波安先前躲避所羅門王，逃往埃及，住在那裡；他聽見這事，就從埃及回來。When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.

³以色列人打發人去請他，他就和以色列眾人來見羅波安，對他說：So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said,

⁴「你父親使我們負重軛做苦工，現在求你使我們做的苦工負的重軛輕鬆些，我們就事奉你。」“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you must lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

⁵羅波安對他們說：「第三日再來見我吧！」民就去了。Rehoboam answered, “Come back to me in three days.” So the people departed.

不聽老年人的主意

⁶羅波安之父所羅門在世的日子，有侍立在他面前的老年人，羅波安王和他們商議，說：「你們給我出個甚麼主意，我好回覆這民。」Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you advise me to respond to these people?” he asked.

⁷老年人對他說：「王若恩待這民，使他們喜悅，用好話回覆他們，他們就永遠作王的僕人。」They replied, “If you will be kind to these people and please them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

⁸王卻不用老年人給他出的主意，就和那些與他一同長大、在他面前侍立的少年人商議，But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders; instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up with him and served him.

⁹說：「這民對我說：『你父親使我們負重軛，求你使我們輕鬆些』；你們給我出個甚麼主意，我好回覆他們。」He asked them, “What message do you advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”

¹⁰那同他長大的少年人說：「這民對王說：『你父親使我們負重軛，求你使我們輕鬆些』；王要對他們如此說：「我的小拇指比我父親的腰還粗；The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you must make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

¹¹我父親使你們負重軛，我必使你們負更重的軛；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我要用蠍子鞭責打你們。』」Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.’”

¹²耶羅波安和眾百姓遵著羅波安王所說「你們第三日再來見我」的那話，第三日他們果然來了。After three days, Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”

¹³羅波安王用嚴厲的話回覆他們，不用老年人所出的主意，And the king answered them harshly. King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders

¹⁴照著少年人所出的主意對他們說：「我父親使你們負重軛，我必使你們負更重的軛；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我要用蠍子鞭責打你們。」and spoke to them as the young men had advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.”

¹⁵王不肯依從百姓；這事乃出於　神，為要應驗耶和華藉示羅人亞希雅對尼八兒子耶羅波安所說的話。So the king did not listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might fulfill the word that He had spoken through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.

以色列人背叛大衛家

¹⁶以色列眾民見王不依從他們，就對王說：我們與大衛有甚麼分兒呢？與耶西的兒子並沒有關涉！以色列人哪，各回各家去吧！大衛家啊，自己顧自己吧！於是，以色列眾人都回自己家裡去了。When all Israel saw that the king had refused to listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,

¹⁷惟獨住在猶大城邑的以色列人，羅波安仍作他們的王。but Rehoboam still reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of Judah.

¹⁸羅波安王差遣掌管服苦之人的哈多蘭往以色列人那裡去，以色列人就用石頭打死他。羅波安王急忙上車，逃回耶路撒冷去了。Then King Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King Rehoboam mounted his chariot in haste and escaped to Jerusalem.

¹⁹這樣，以色列人背叛大衛家，直到今日。So to this day Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David.

神禁止攻打北方

¹羅波安來到耶路撒冷，招聚猶大家和便雅憫家，共十八萬人，都是挑選的戰士，要與以色列人爭戰，好將國奪回再歸自己。When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mobilized the house of Judah and Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

²但耶和華的話臨到神人示瑪雅說：But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:

³「你去告訴所羅門的兒子猶大王羅波安和住猶大、便雅憫的以色列眾人說，“Tell Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin

⁴耶和華如此說：『你們不可上去與你們的弟兄爭戰，各歸各家去吧！因為這事出於我。』」眾人就聽從耶和華的話歸回，不去與耶羅波安爭戰。that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this is My doing.’” So they listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against Jeroboam.

羅波安修築堅固城

⁵羅波安住在耶路撒冷，在猶大地修築城邑，Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and he built up cities for defense in Judah.

⁶為保障修築伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、He built up Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

⁷伯‧夙、梭哥、亞杜蘭、Beth-zur, Soco, Adullam,

⁸迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

⁹亞多萊音、拉吉、亞西加、Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

¹⁰瑣拉、亞雅崙、希伯崙。這都是猶大和便雅憫的堅固城。Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, the fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.

¹¹羅波安又堅固各處的保障，在其中安置軍長，又預備下糧食、油、酒。He strengthened their fortifications and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.

¹²他在各城裡預備盾牌和槍，且使城極其堅固。猶大和便雅憫都歸了他。He also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

祭司和利未人來歸

¹³以色列全地的祭司和利未人都從四方來歸羅波安。Moreover, the priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel stood with Rehoboam.

¹⁴利未人撇下他們的郊野和產業，來到猶大與耶路撒冷，是因耶羅波安和他的兒子拒絕他們，不許他們供祭司職分事奉耶和華。For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.

¹⁵耶羅波安為邱壇、為鬼魔（原文是公山羊）、為自己所鑄造的牛犢設立祭司。And Jeroboam appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat demons and calf idols he had made.

¹⁶以色列各支派中，凡立定心意尋求耶和華─以色列　神的，都隨從利未人，來到耶路撒冷祭祀耶和華─他們列祖的　神。Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.

¹⁷這樣，就堅固猶大國，使所羅門的兒子羅波安強盛三年，因為他們三年遵行大衛和所羅門的道。So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.

羅波安的家室

¹⁸羅波安娶大衛兒子耶利摩的女兒瑪哈拉為妻，又娶耶西兒子以利押的女兒亞比孩為妻。And Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse’s son Eliab.

¹⁹從她生了幾個兒子，就是耶烏施、示瑪利雅、撒罕。She bore sons to him: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.

²⁰後來又娶押沙龍的女兒瑪迦（十三章二節是烏列的女兒米該亞），從她生了亞比雅、亞太、細撒、示羅密。After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, and she bore to him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

²¹羅波安娶十八個妻，立六十個妾，生二十八個兒子，六十個女兒；他卻愛押沙龍的女兒瑪迦，比愛別的妻妾更甚。Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

²²羅波安立瑪迦的兒子亞比雅作太子，在他弟兄中為首，因為想要立他接續作王。Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to make him king.

²³羅波安辦事精明，使他眾子分散在猶大和便雅憫全地各堅固城裡，又賜他們許多糧食，為他們多尋妻子。Rehoboam also acted wisely by dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.

離棄律法，示撒來攻

¹羅波安的國堅立，他強盛的時候就離棄耶和華的律法，以色列人也都隨從他。After Rehoboam had established his sovereignty and royal power, he and all Israel with him forsook the Law of the LORD.

²羅波安王第五年，埃及王示撒上來攻打耶路撒冷，因為王和民得罪了耶和華。In the fifth year of Rehoboam’s reign, because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem

³示撒帶戰車一千二百輛，馬兵六萬，並且跟從他出埃及的路比人、蘇基人，和古實人，多得不可勝數。with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 horsemen, and countless troops who came with him out of Egypt—Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites.

⁴他攻取了猶大的堅固城，就來到耶路撒冷。He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.

先知示瑪雅的信息

⁵那時，猶大的首領因為示撒就聚集在耶路撒冷。有先知示瑪雅去見羅波安和眾首領，對他們說：「耶和華如此說：『你們離棄了我，所以我使你們落在示撒手裡。』」Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what the LORD says: ‘You have forsaken Me; therefore, I have forsaken you into the hand of Shishak.’”

⁶於是王和以色列的眾首領都自卑說：「耶和華是公義的。」So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The LORD is righteous.”

⁷耶和華見他們自卑，耶和華的話就臨到示瑪雅說：「他們既自卑，我必不滅絕他們；必使他們略得拯救，我不藉著示撒的手將我的怒氣倒在耶路撒冷。When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.

⁸然而他們必作示撒的僕人，好叫他們知道，服事我與服事外邦人有何分別。」Nevertheless, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving Me and serving the kings of other lands.”

金盾牌換成銅盾牌

⁹於是，埃及王示撒上來攻取耶路撒冷，奪了耶和華殿和王宮裡的寶物，盡都帶走，又奪去所羅門製造的金盾牌。So King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem and seized the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made.

¹⁰羅波安王製造銅盾牌代替那金盾牌，交給守王宮門的護衛長看守。Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.

¹¹王每逢進耶和華的殿，護衛兵就拿這盾牌，隨後仍將盾牌送回，放在護衛房。And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would go with him, bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the guardroom.

¹²王自卑的時候，耶和華的怒氣就轉消了，不將他滅盡，並且在猶大中間也有善益的事。Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Judah.

羅波安的一生

¹³羅波安王自強，在耶路撒冷作王。他登基的時候年四十一歲，在耶路撒冷，就是耶和華從以色列眾支派中所選擇立他名的城，作王十七年。羅波安的母親名叫拿瑪，是亞捫人。Thus King Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem and reigned. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.

¹⁴羅波安行惡，因他不立定心意尋求耶和華。And Rehoboam did evil because he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.

¹⁵羅波安所行的事，自始至終不都寫在先知示瑪雅和先見易多的史記上嗎？羅波安與耶羅波安時常爭戰。Now the acts of Rehoboam, from first to last, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the Prophet and of Iddo the Seer concerning the genealogies? There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout their days.

眾人咬牙切齒

⁵⁴眾人聽見這話就極其惱怒，向司提反咬牙切齒。On hearing this, the members of the Sanhedrin were enraged, and they gnashed their teeth at him.

看見耶穌站在神的右邊

⁵⁵但司提反被聖靈充滿，定睛望天，看見　神的榮耀，又看見耶穌站在　神的右邊，But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

⁵⁶就說：「我看見天開了，人子站在　神的右邊。」“Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

司提反被石頭打死

⁵⁷眾人大聲喊叫，摀著耳朵，齊心擁上前去，At this they covered their ears, cried out in a loud voice, and rushed together at him.

⁵⁸把他推到城外，用石頭打他。作見證的人把衣裳放在一個少年人名叫掃羅的腳前。They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

⁵⁹他們正用石頭打的時候，司提反呼籲主說：「求主耶穌接收我的靈魂！」While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

⁶⁰又跪下大聲喊著說：「主啊，不要將這罪歸於他們！」說了這話，就睡了。掃羅也喜悅他被害。Falling on his knees, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

教會大遭逼迫

¹從這日起，耶路撒冷的教會大遭逼迫，除了使徒以外，門徒都分散在猶太和撒馬利亞各處。And Saul was there, giving approval to Stephen’s death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

²有虔誠的人把司提反埋葬了，為他捶胸大哭。God-fearing men buried Stephen and mourned deeply over him.

掃羅殘害教會

³掃羅卻殘害教會，進各人的家，拉著男女下在監裡。But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
