起初神創造天地

¹起初，　神創造天地。In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

²地是空虛混沌，淵面黑暗；　神的靈運行在水面上。Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

第一日：光

³神說：「要有光」，就有了光。And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

⁴神看光是好的，就把光暗分開了。And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

⁵神稱光為「晝」，稱暗為「夜」。有晚上，有早晨，這是頭一日。God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

第二日：空氣分開上下的水

⁶神說：「諸水之間要有空氣，將水分為上下。」And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, to separate the waters from the waters.”

⁷神就造出空氣，將空氣以下的水、空氣以上的水分開了。事就這樣成了。So God made the expanse and separated the waters beneath it from the waters above. And it was so.

⁸神稱空氣為「天」。有晚上，有早晨，是第二日。God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

第三日：旱地與植物

⁹神說：「天下的水要聚在一處，使旱地露出來。」事就這樣成了。And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place, so that the dry land may appear.” And it was so.

¹⁰神稱旱地為「地」，稱水的聚處為「海」。　神看著是好的。God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

¹¹神說：「地要發生青草和結種子的菜蔬，並結果子的樹木，各從其類，果子都包著核。」事就這樣成了。Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit with seed according to its kind.” And it was so.

¹²於是地發生了青草和結種子的菜蔬，各從其類；並結果子的樹木，各從其類；果子都包著核。　神看著是好的。The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

¹³有晚上，有早晨，是第三日。And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

第四日：日月星辰

¹⁴神說：「天上要有光體，可以分晝夜，作記號，定節令、日子、年歲，And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to distinguish between the day and the night, and let them be signs to mark the seasons and days and years.

¹⁵並要發光在天空，普照在地上。」事就這樣成了。And let them serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth.” And it was so.

¹⁶於是　神造了兩個大光，大的管晝，小的管夜，又造眾星，God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. And He made the stars as well.

¹⁷就把這些光擺列在天空，普照在地上，God set these lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth,

¹⁸管理晝夜，分別明暗。　神看著是好的。to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

¹⁹有晚上，有早晨，是第四日。And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

第五日：水中的生物與飛鳥

²⁰神說：「水要多多滋生有生命的物；要有雀鳥飛在地面以上，天空之中。」And God said, “Let the waters teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the sky.”

²¹神就造出大魚和水中所滋生各樣有生命的動物，各從其類；又造出各樣飛鳥，各從其類。　神看著是好的。So God created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters teemed according to their kinds, and every winged bird after its kind. And God saw that it was good.

²²神就賜福給這一切，說：「滋生繁多，充滿海中的水；雀鳥也要多生在地上。」Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

²³有晚上，有早晨，是第五日。And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

第六日：地上的活物

²⁴神說：「地要生出活物來，各從其類；牲畜、昆蟲、野獸，各從其類。」事就這樣成了。And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, land crawlers, and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.

²⁵於是　神造出野獸，各從其類；牲畜，各從其類；地上一切昆蟲，各從其類。　神看著是好的。God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

照神的形像造人

²⁶神說：「我們要照著我們的形像、按著我們的樣式造人，使他們管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥、地上的牲畜，和全地，並地上所爬的一切昆蟲。」Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”

²⁷神就照著自己的形像造人，乃是照著他的形像造男造女。So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

²⁸神就賜福給他們，又對他們說：「要生養眾多，遍滿地面，治理這地，也要管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥，和地上各樣行動的活物。」God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”

²⁹神說：「看哪，我將遍地上一切結種子的菜蔬和一切樹上所結有核的果子全賜給你們作食物。Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food.

³⁰至於地上的走獸和空中的飛鳥，並各樣爬在地上有生命的物，我將青草賜給牠們作食物。」事就這樣成了。And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

³¹神看著一切所造的都甚好。有晚上，有早晨，是第六日。And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

第七日：神安息

¹天地萬物都造齊了。Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

²到第七日，　神造物的工已經完畢，就在第七日歇了他一切的工，安息了。And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.

³神賜福給第七日，定為聖日；因為在這日，　神歇了他一切創造的工，就安息了。Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.

耶和華神用塵土造人

⁴創造天地的來歷，在耶和華　神造天地的日子，乃是這樣，This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made them.

⁵野地還沒有草木，田間的菜蔬還沒有長起來；因為耶和華　神還沒有降雨在地上，也沒有人耕地，Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

⁶但有霧氣從地上騰，滋潤遍地。But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

⁷耶和華　神用地上的塵土造人，將生氣吹在他鼻孔裡，他就成了有靈的活人，名叫亞當。Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

伊甸園與兩棵樹

⁸耶和華　神在東方的伊甸立了一個園子，把所造的人安置在那裡。And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.

⁹耶和華　神使各樣的樹從地裡長出來，可以悅人的眼目，其上的果子好作食物。園子當中又有生命樹和分別善惡的樹。Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁰有河從伊甸流出來，滋潤那園子，從那裡分為四道：Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:

¹¹第一道名叫比遜，就是環繞哈腓拉全地的。在那裡有金子，The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

¹²並且那地的金子是好的；在那裡又有珍珠和紅瑪瑙。And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.

¹³第二道河名叫基訓，就是環繞古實全地的。The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.

¹⁴第三道河名叫底格里斯，流在亞述的東邊。第四道河就是幼發拉底河。The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

¹⁵耶和華　神將那人安置在伊甸園，使他修理，看守。Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

¹⁶耶和華　神吩咐他說：「園中各樣樹上的果子，你可以隨意吃，And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden,

¹⁷只是分別善惡樹上的果子，你不可吃，因為你吃的日子必定死！」but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

神為那人造配偶

¹⁸耶和華　神說：「那人獨居不好，我要為他造一個配偶幫助他。」The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

¹⁹耶和華　神用土所造成的野地各樣走獸和空中各樣飛鳥都帶到那人面前，看他叫甚麼。那人怎樣叫各樣的活物，那就是牠的名字。And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

²⁰那人便給一切牲畜和空中飛鳥、野地走獸都起了名；只是那人沒有遇見配偶幫助他。The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

²¹耶和華　神使他沉睡，他就睡了；於是取下他的一條肋骨，又把肉合起來。So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.

²²耶和華　神就用那人身上所取的肋骨造成一個女人，領她到那人跟前。And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.

²³那人說：這是我骨中的骨，肉中的肉，可以稱她為「女人」，因為她是從「男人」身上取出來的。And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”

²⁴因此，人要離開父母，與妻子連合，二人成為一體。For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

三個十四代

¹⁷這樣，從亞伯拉罕到大衛共有十四代；從大衛到遷至巴比倫的時候也有十四代；從遷至巴比倫的時候到基督又有十四代。In all, then, there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.

馬利亞從聖靈懷孕

¹⁸耶穌基督降生的事記在下面：他母親馬利亞已經許配了約瑟，還沒有迎娶，馬利亞就從聖靈懷了孕。This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹她丈夫約瑟是個義人，不願意明明地羞辱她，想要暗暗地把她休了。Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly.

天使在夢中向約瑟顯現

²⁰正思念這事的時候，有主的使者向他夢中顯現，說：「大衛的子孫約瑟，不要怕！只管娶過你的妻子馬利亞來，因她所懷的孕是從聖靈來的。But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

²¹她將要生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫耶穌，因他要將自己的百姓從罪惡裡救出來。」She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

應驗先知的話

²²這一切的事成就是要應驗主藉先知所說的話，All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

²³說：必有童女懷孕生子；人要稱他的名為以馬內利。（以馬內利翻出來就是「　神與我們同在」。）“Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).

約瑟遵命娶馬利亞

²⁴約瑟醒了，起來，就遵著主使者的吩咐把妻子娶過來；When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and embraced Mary as his wife.

²⁵只是沒有和她同房，等她生了兒子（有古卷：等她生了頭胎的兒子），就給他起名叫耶穌。But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus.
