1当的时候，耶稣生在犹太的。有几个从东方来到耶路撒冷，说：After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,
2“那生下来作犹太人之王的在哪里？我们在东方看见他的，特来拜他。”asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
3希律王听见了，就心里不安；耶路撒冷合城的人也都不安。When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4他就召齐了祭司长和民间的，问他们说：“基督当生在何处？”And when he had assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
5他们回答说：“在犹太的伯利恒。因为有先知记着，说：“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6犹大地的伯利恒啊，你在犹大诸城中并不是最小的；因为将来有一位君王要从你那里出来，我以色列民。”‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of My people Israel.’”
7当下，希律暗暗地召了博士来，细问那星是什么时候出现的，Then Herod called the Magi secretly and learned from them the exact time the star had appeared.
8就差他们往伯利恒去，说：“你们去仔细寻访那小孩子，寻到了就来报信，我也好去拜他。”And sending them to Bethlehem, he said: “Go and search carefully for the Child, and when you find Him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship Him.”
9他们听见王的话就去了。在东方所看见的那星忽然在他们前头行，直行到小孩子的地方，就在上头停住了。After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.
10他们看见那星，就大大地欢喜；When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great delight.
11进了房子，看见小孩子和他母亲马利亚，就俯伏拜那小孩子，揭开，拿黄金、、为礼物献给他。On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.
12博士因为在梦中被主指示不要回去见希律，就从别的路回本地去了。And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.
13他们去后，有主的使者向约瑟梦中显现，说：“起来！带着小孩子同他母亲逃往埃及，住在那里，等我吩咐你；因为希律必寻找小孩子，要除灭他。”When the Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
14约瑟就起来，夜间带着小孩子和他母亲往埃及去，So he got up, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
15住在那里，直到希律死了。这是要应验主借先知所说的话，说：“我从埃及召出我的儿子来。”where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
16希律见自己被博士，就大大发怒，差人将伯利恒城里并所有的男孩，照着他向博士仔细查问的时候，凡两岁以里的，都杀尽了。When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was filled with rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the Magi.
17这就应了先知耶利米的话，说：Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:
18在听见的声音，是哭她儿女，不肯受安慰，因为他们都不在了。“A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
19希律死了以后，有主的使者在埃及向约瑟梦中显现，说：After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.
20“起来！带着小孩子和他母亲往以色列地去，因为要害小孩子性命的人已经死了。”“Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are now dead.”
21约瑟就起来，把小孩子和他母亲带到以色列地去；So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and went to the land of Israel.
22只因听见接着他父亲希律作了犹太王，就怕往那里去，又在梦中被主指示，便往加利利境内去了，But when he learned that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee,
23到了一座城，名叫，就住在那里。这是要应验先知所说，他将称为拿撒勒人的话了。and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”
