1有一个法利赛人，名叫，是。Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.
2这人夜里来见耶稣，说：“拉比，我们知道你是由 神那里来作师傅的；因为你所行的神迹，若没有 神同在，无人能行。”He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.”
3耶稣回答说：“我实实在在地告诉你，人若不，就不能见 。”Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
4尼哥底母说：“人已经老了，如何能重生呢？岂能再进母腹生出来吗？”“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time to be born?”
5耶稣说：“我实实在在地告诉你，人若不是从生的，就不能进 神的国。Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
6从肉身生的就是肉身；从灵生的就是灵。Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit.
7我说：‘你们必须重生’，你不要以为。Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’
8，你听见风的响声，却不晓得从哪里来，往哪里去；凡从圣灵生的，也是如此。”The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
9尼哥底母问他说：“怎能有这事呢？”“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.
10耶稣回答说：“你是以色列人的，还不明白这事吗？“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and you do not understand these things?
11我实实在在地告诉你，我们所说的是我们知道的；我们所见证的是我们见过的；你们却不领受我们的见证。Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.
12我对你们说地上的事，你们尚且不信，若说天上的事，如何能信呢？If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?
13除了从天降下、仍旧在天的人子，没有人升过天。No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.
14摩西在旷野怎样，人子也必照样，Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
15叫一切信他的都得（或译：叫一切信的人在他里面得永生）。that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.
16“ 神爱，甚至将他的独生子赐给他们，叫一切信他的，不致灭亡，反得永生。For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17因为 神差他的儿子降世，不是要定世人的罪（或译：审判世人；下同），乃是要叫世人因他得救。For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
18信他的人，不被；不信的人，罪已经定了，因为他不信 神独生子的名。Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
19光来到世间，世人因自己的行为是恶的，不爱光，倒爱黑暗，定他们的罪就是在此。And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil.
20凡作恶的便恨光，并不来，恐怕他的行为受责备。Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
21但行真理的必来就光，要显明他所行的是靠 神而行。”But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”
22这事以后，耶稣和门徒到了犹太地，在那里居住，施洗。After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the Judean countryside, where He spent some time with them and baptized.
23约翰在靠近撒冷的也施洗；因为那里水多，众人都去受洗。Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because the water was plentiful there, and people kept coming to be baptized.
24（那时约翰还没有下在监里。）(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)
25约翰的门徒和一个犹太人辩论洁净的礼，Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the issue of ceremonial washing.
26就来见约翰，说：“拉比，从前同你在约旦河外、你所见证的那位，现在施洗，众人都往他那里去了。”So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Look, Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you testified about—He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”
27约翰说：“若不是从天上赐的，人就不能得什么。John replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.
28我曾说：‘我不是基督，是奉差遣在他前面的’，你们自己可以给我作见证。You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but am sent ahead of Him.’
29娶新妇的就是新郎；站着，听见新郎的声音就甚喜乐。故此，我这喜乐满足了。The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom stands and listens for him, and is overjoyed to hear the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
30。”He must increase; I must decrease.
31“从天上来的是在万有之上；从地上来的是属乎地，他所说的也是属乎地。从天上来的是在万有之上。The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all.
32他将所见所闻的见证出来，只是没有人领受他的见证。He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony.
33那领受他见证的，就，证明 神是真的。Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful.
34神所差来的就说 神的话，因为 神赐圣灵给他是的。For the One whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.
35父爱子，已将万有交在他手里。The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands.
36信子的人有永生；不信子的人得不着永生（原文是不得见永生）， 神的常在他身上。”Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”
