1当犹大王约西亚之子约雅敬的时候，耶和华的话临到耶利米说：This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
2“你去见的人，和他们说话，领他们进入耶和华殿的一间屋子，给他们酒喝。”“Go to the house of the Rechabites, speak to them, and bring them to one of the chambers of the house of the LORD to offer them a drink of wine.”
3我就将哈巴洗尼雅的孙子雅利米雅的儿子雅撒尼亚和他弟兄，并他众子，以及利甲全族的人，So I took Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers and all his sons—the entire house of the Rechabites—
4领到耶和华的殿，进入伊基大利的儿子哈难众子的屋子。那屋子在首领的屋子旁边，在沙龙之子玛西雅屋子以上。and I brought them into the house of the LORD, to a chamber occupied by the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a man of God. This room was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum the doorkeeper.
5于是我在利甲族人面前设摆盛满酒的碗和杯，对他们说：“请你们喝酒。”Then I set pitchers full of wine and some cups before the men of the house of the Rechabites, and I said to them, “Drink some wine.”
6他们却说：“我们不喝酒；因为我们先祖利甲的儿子约拿达曾吩咐我们说：‘你们与你们的子孙永不可喝酒，“We do not drink wine,” they replied, “for our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab commanded us, ‘Neither you nor your descendants are ever to drink wine.
7也不可盖房、撒种、栽种葡萄园，但一生的年日要住帐棚，使你们的日子在之地得以延长。’Nor are you ever to build a house or sow seed or plant a vineyard. Those things are not for you. Instead, you must live in tents all your lives, so that you may live a long time in the land where you wander.’
8凡我们先祖利甲的儿子约拿达所吩咐我们的话，我们都听从了。我们和我们的妻子儿女一生的年日都不喝酒，And we have obeyed the voice of our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab in all he commanded us. So we have not drunk wine all our lives—neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters.
9也不盖房居住，也没有葡萄园、田地，和种子，Nor have we built houses in which to live, and we have not owned any vineyards or fields or crops.
10但住帐棚，听从我们先祖约拿达的话，照他所吩咐我们的去行。But we have lived in tents and have obeyed and done exactly as our forefather Jonadab commanded us.
11巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒上此地来，我们因怕迦勒底的军队和亚兰的军队，就说：‘来吧，我们到耶路撒冷去。’这样，我们才住在耶路撒冷。”So when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched into the land, we said: ‘Come, let us go into Jerusalem to escape the armies of the Chaldeans and the Arameans.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”
12耶和华的话临到耶利米说：Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
13“万军之耶和华—以色列的 神如此说：你去对犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民说，耶和华说：你们不受教训，不听从我的话吗？“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
14利甲的儿子约拿达所吩咐他子孙不可喝酒的话，他们已经遵守，直到今日也不喝酒，因为他们听从先祖的吩咐。我警戒你们，你们却不听从我。The words of Jonadab son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his sons not to drink wine, and they have not drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
15我从早起来，差遣我的仆人众先知去，说：‘你们各人当回头，离开恶道，改正行为，不随从事奉别神，就必住在我所赐给你们和你们列祖的地上。’只是你们没有听从我，也没有侧耳而听。Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets, proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or listened to Me.
16利甲的儿子约拿达的子孙能遵守先人所吩咐他们的命，这百姓却没有听从我！Yes, the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab carried out the command their forefather gave them, but these people have not listened to Me.
17因此，耶和华—万军之 神、以色列的 神如此说：我要使我所说的一切灾祸临到犹大人和耶路撒冷的一切居民。因为我对他们说话，他们没有听从；我呼唤他们，他们没有答应。”Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring to Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.’”
18耶利米对利甲族的人说：“万军之耶和华—以色列的 神如此说：因你们听从你们先祖约拿达的吩咐，谨守他的一切诫命，照他所吩咐你们的去行，Then Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites: “This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Because you have obeyed the command of your forefather Jonadab and have kept all his commandments and have done all that he charged you to do,
19所以万军之耶和华—以色列的 神如此说：利甲的儿子约拿达必永不缺人。”this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
