1以色列年幼的时候，我爱他，就从埃及召出我的儿子来。When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.
2先知越发招呼他们，他们越发走开，向诸巴力献祭，给雕刻的偶像烧香。But the more I called Israel, the farther they departed from Me. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to carved images.
3我原教导以法莲行走，用膀臂抱着他们，他们却不知道是我医治他们。It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms, but they never realized that it was I who healed them.
4我用（慈：原文是人的）爱索牵引他们；我待他们如人放松牛的，把粮食放在他们面前。I led them with cords of kindness, with ropes of love; I lifted the yoke from their necks and bent down to feed them.
5他们必不归回埃及地，亚述人却要作他们的王，因他们不肯归向我。Will they not return to the land of Egypt and be ruled by Assyria because they refused to repent?
6刀剑必临到他们的城邑，毁坏门闩，把人吞灭，都因他们随从自己的计谋。A sword will flash through their cities; it will destroy the bars of their gates and consume them in their own plans.
7我的民偏要背道离开我；众先知虽然招呼他们归向至上的主，却无人尊崇主。My people are bent on turning from Me. Though they call to the Most High, He will by no means exalt them.
8以法莲哪，我怎能舍弃你？以色列啊，我怎能弃绝你？我怎能使你如？怎能使你如洗扁？我，我的怜爱大大发动。How could I give you up, O Ephraim? How could I surrender you, O Israel? How could I make you like Admah? How could I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within Me; My compassion is stirred!
9我必不发猛烈的怒气，也不再毁灭以法莲。因我是 神，并非世人，是你们中间的圣者；我必不在怒中临到你们。I will not execute the full fury of My anger; I will not destroy Ephraim again. For I am God and not man—the Holy One among you—and I will not come in wrath.
10耶和华必如狮子吼叫，子民必跟随他。他一吼叫，他们就从西方急速而来。They will walk after the LORD; He will roar like a lion. When He roars, His children will come trembling from the west.
11他们必如雀鸟从埃及急速而来，又如鸽子从亚述地来到。我必使他们住自己的房屋。这是耶和华说的。They will come trembling like birds from Egypt and like doves from the land of Assyria. Then I will settle them in their homes, declares the LORD.
12以法莲用谎话，以色列家用诡计围绕我；犹大却靠 神掌权，向圣者有忠心（或译：犹大向 神，向诚实的圣者犹疑不定）。Ephraim surrounds Me with lies, the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah still walks with God and is faithful to the Holy One.
