1“此后，我们转回，从红海的路往旷野去，是照耶和华所吩咐我的。我们在西珥山绕行了许多日子。Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.
2耶和华对我说：At this time the LORD said to me,
3‘你们绕行这山的日子够了，要转向北去。“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
4你吩咐百姓说：你们弟兄的子孙住在西珥，你们要经过他们的境界。他们必惧怕你们，所以你们要分外谨慎。and command the people: ‘You will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.
5不可与他们争战；他们的地，连脚掌可踏之处，我都不给你们，因我已将西珥山赐给以扫为业。Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as his possession.
6你们要用钱向他们买粮吃，也要用钱向他们买水喝。You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”
7因为耶和华—你的 神在你手里所办的一切事上已赐福与你。你走这大旷野，他都知道了。这四十年，耶和华—你的 神常与你同在，故此你。’Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
8“于是，我们离了我们弟兄以扫子孙所住的西珥，从亚拉巴的路，经过以拉他、以旬·迦别，转向摩押旷野的路去。So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion-geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
9耶和华吩咐我说：‘不可扰害摩押人，也不可与他们争战。他们的地，我不赐给你为业，因我已将亚珥赐给的子孙为业。’Then the LORD said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
10（先前，有以米人住在那里，民数众多，身体高大，像亚衲人一样。(The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.
11这以米人像亚衲人；也算为利乏音人；摩押人称他们为以米人。Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
12先前，何利人也住在西珥，但以扫的子孙将他们除灭，得了他们的地，接着居住，就如以色列在耶和华赐给他为业之地所行的一样。）The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
13现在，起来过！于是我们过了撒烈溪。“Now arise and cross over the Brook of Zered.” So we crossed over the Brook of Zered.
14自从离开加低斯·巴尼亚，到过了撒烈溪的时候，共有三十八年，等那世代的兵丁都从营中灭尽，正如耶和华向他们所起的誓。The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.
15耶和华的手也攻击他们，将他们从营中除灭，直到灭尽。Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.
16“兵丁从民中都灭尽死亡以后，Now when all the fighting men among the people had died,
17耶和华吩咐我说：the LORD said to me,
18‘你今天要从摩押的境界亚珥经过，“Today you are going to cross the border of Moab at Ar.
19走近亚扪人之地，不可扰害他们，也不可与他们争战。亚扪人的地，我不赐给你们为业，因我已将那地赐给罗得的子孙为业。’But when you get close to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
20（那地也算为利乏音人之地，先前利乏音人住在那里，亚扪人称他们为散送冥。(That too was regarded as the land of the Rephaim, who used to live there, though the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
21那民众多，身体高大，像亚衲人一样，但耶和华从亚扪人面前除灭他们，亚扪人就得了他们的地，接着居住。They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
22正如耶和华从前为住西珥的以扫子孙将何利人从他们面前除灭、他们得了何利人的地、接着居住一样，直到今日。just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
23从迦斐托出来的迦斐托人将先前住在乡村直到迦萨的亚卫人除灭，接着居住。）And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, were destroyed by the Caphtorites, who came out of Caphtor and settled in their place.)
24你们起来前往，过；我已将亚摩利人希实本王和他的地交在你手中，你要与他争战，得他的地为业。“Arise, set out, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.
25从今日起，我要使天下万民听见你的名声都惊恐惧怕，且因你发颤伤恸。”This very day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and tremble in anguish because of you.”
26“我从基底莫的旷野差遣使者去见希实本王西宏，用和睦的话说：So from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of Heshbon, saying,
27‘求你容我从你的地经过，只走大道，不偏左右。“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
28你可以卖粮给我吃，也可以卖水给我喝，只要容我步行过去，You can sell us food to eat and water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,
29就如住西珥的以扫子孙和住亚珥的摩押人待我一样，等我过了约旦河，好进入耶和华—我们 神所赐给我们的地。’just as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for us, until we cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.”
30但希实本王西宏不容我们从他那里经过；因为耶和华—你的 神使他心中刚硬，性情顽梗，为要将他交在你手中，像今日一样。But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as is the case this day.
31耶和华对我说：‘从此起首，我要将西宏和他的地交给你；你要得他的地为业。’Then the LORD said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”
32那时，西宏和他的众民出来攻击我们，在雅杂与我们交战。So Sihon and his whole army came out for battle against us at Jahaz.
33耶和华—我们的 神将他交给我们，我们就把他和他的儿子，并他的众民，都击杀了。And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him and his sons and his whole army.
34我们夺了他的一切城邑，将有人烟的各城，连女人带孩子，尽都毁灭，没有留下一个。At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.
35惟有牲畜和所夺的各城，并其中的财物，都取为自己的掠物。We carried off for ourselves only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we captured.
36从亚嫩谷边的亚罗珥和谷中的城，直到基列，耶和华—我们的 神都交给我们了，没有一座城高得使我们不能攻取的。From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
37惟有亚扪人之地，凡靠近雅博河的地，并山地的城邑，与耶和华—我们 神所禁止我们去的地方，都没有挨近。”But you did not go near the land of the Ammonites, or the land along the banks of the Jabbok River, or the cities of the hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
