1法老攻擊迦薩之先，有耶和華論的話臨到先知耶利米。This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet about the Philistines before Pharaoh struck down Gaza.
2耶和華如此說：有水從北方發起，成為漲溢的河，要漲過遍地和其中所有的，並城和其中所住的。人必呼喊；境內的居民都必哀號。This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will wail
3聽見敵人壯馬蹄跳的響聲和戰車隆隆、車輪轟轟；為父的手就發軟，不回頭看顧兒女。at the sound of the galloping hooves of stallions, the rumbling of chariots, and the clatter of their wheels. The fathers will not turn back for their sons; their hands will hang limp.
4因為日子將到，要毀滅一切非利士人，剪除幫助泰爾、西頓所剩下的人。原來耶和華必毀滅非利士人，就是海島餘剩的人。For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining ally. Indeed, the LORD is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.
5迦薩成了；平原中所剩的亞實基倫歸於無有。你用刀劃身，要到幾時呢？The people of Gaza will shave their heads in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourself?
6耶和華的刀劍哪，你到幾時才止息呢？你要，安靖不動。‘Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still!’
7耶和華既吩咐你攻擊亞實基倫和海邊之地，他已經派定你，焉能止息呢？How can it rest when the LORD has commanded it? He has appointed it against Ashkelon and the shore of its coastland.”
