1七月二十一日，耶和華的話臨到先知哈該說：On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through Haggai the prophet, saying:
2「你要曉諭猶大省長撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯和約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞，並剩下的百姓，說：“Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and also to the remnant of the people. Ask them,
3你們中間存留的，有誰見過這殿從前的榮耀呢？現在你們看著如何？豈不在眼中嗎？」‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not appear to you like nothing in comparison?’
4耶和華說：「所羅巴伯啊，雖然如此，你當剛強！約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞啊，你也當剛強！這地的百姓，你們都當剛強做工，因為我與你們同在。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。But now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work! For I am with you, declares the LORD of Hosts.
5這是照著你們出埃及我與你們立約的話。那時，我的靈住在你們中間，你們不要懼怕。」This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt. And My Spirit remains among you; do not be afraid.”
6萬軍之耶和華如此說：「過不多時，我必再一次震動天地、滄海，與旱地。For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
7我必震動萬國；萬國的必都運來（或譯：萬國所羨慕的必來到），我就使這殿滿了榮耀。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。」I will shake all the nations, and they will come with all their treasures, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.
8萬軍之耶和華說：「銀子是我的，金子也是我的。The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, declares the LORD of Hosts.
9這殿後來的榮耀必大過先前的榮耀；在這地方我必賜平安。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。」The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former, says the LORD of Hosts. And in this place I will provide peace, declares the LORD of Hosts.”
10大流士王第二年九月二十四日，耶和華的話臨到先知哈該說：On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying,
11萬軍之耶和華如此說：「你要向祭司問律法，“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Ask the priests for a ruling.
12說：若有人用兜，這衣襟挨著餅，或湯，或酒，或油，或別的食物，便算為聖嗎？」祭司說：「不算為聖。」If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does that item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
13哈該又說：「若有人因摸染了污穢，然後挨著這些物的哪一樣，這物算污穢嗎？」祭司說：「必算污穢。」So Haggai asked, “If one who is defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?” “Yes, it becomes defiled,” the priests answered.
14於是哈該說：「耶和華說：這民這國，在我面前也是如此；他們手下的各樣工作都是如此；他們在壇上所獻的也是如此。」Then Haggai replied, “So it is with this people and this nation before Me, declares the LORD, and so it is with every work of their hands; whatever they offer there is defiled.
15現在你們要追想，此日以前，耶和華的殿沒有一塊石頭在石頭上的光景。Now consider carefully from this day forward: Before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,
16在那一切日子，有人來到穀堆，想得二十斗，只得了十斗。有人來到，想得五十桶，只得了二十桶。from that time, when one came expecting a heap of twenty ephahs of grain, there were but ten. When one came to the winepress to draw out fifty baths, there were but twenty.
17在你們手下的各樣工作上，我以旱風、、冰雹攻擊你們，你們仍不歸向我。這是耶和華說的。I struck you—all the work of your hands—with blight, mildew, and hail, but you did not turn to Me, declares the LORD.
18你們要追想此日以前，就是從這九月二十四日起，追想到立耶和華殿根基的日子。Consider carefully from this day forward—from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid—consider carefully:
19倉裡有穀種嗎？葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹、橄欖樹都沒有結果子。從今日起，我必賜福與你們。Is there still seed in the barn? The vine, the fig, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yet yielded fruit. But from this day on, I will bless you.”
20這月二十四日，耶和華的話二次臨到哈該說：For the second time that day, the twenty-fourth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to Haggai, saying,
21「你要告訴猶大省長所羅巴伯說：我必震動天地。“Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I am about to shake the heavens and the earth:
22我必傾覆列國的寶座，除滅列邦的勢力，並傾覆戰車和坐在其上的。馬必跌倒，騎馬的敗落，各人被弟兄的刀所殺。I will overturn royal thrones and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overturn chariots and their riders; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.
23萬軍之耶和華說：我僕人撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯啊，到那日，我必以你為，因我揀選了你。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。」On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will take you, My servant, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, declares the LORD, and I will make you like My signet ring, for I have chosen you, declares the LORD of Hosts.”
