1那時，天下人的口音、言語都是一樣。Now the whole world had one language and a common form of speech.
2他們往東邊遷移的時候，在示拿地遇見一片平原，就住在那裡。And as people journeyed eastward, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3他們彼此商量說：「來吧！我們要做磚，把磚燒透了。」他們就拿磚當石頭，又拿當灰泥。And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” So they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
4他們說：「來吧！我們要建造一座城和一座塔，，為要傳揚我們的名，免得我們分散在全地上。」“Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.”
5耶和華降臨，要看看世人所建造的城和塔。Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men were building.
6耶和華說：「看哪，他們成為一樣的人民，都是一樣的言語，如今既做起這事來，以後他們所要做的事就沒有不成就的了。And the LORD said, “If they have begun to do this as one people speaking the same language, then nothing they devise will be beyond them.
7我們下去，在那裡他們的口音，使他們的言語彼此不通。」Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
8於是耶和華使他們從那裡分散在全地上；他們就停工，不造那城了。So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
9因為耶和華在那裡變亂天下人的言語，使眾人分散在全地上，所以那城名叫。That is why it is called Babel, for there the LORD confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the earth.
10閃的後代記在下面。洪水以後二年，閃一百歲生了亞法撒。This is the account of Shem. Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad.
11閃生亞法撒之後又活了五百年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12亞法撒活到三十五歲，生了沙拉。When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13亞法撒生沙拉之後又活了四百零三年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
14沙拉活到三十歲，生了希伯。When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15沙拉生希伯之後又活了四百零三年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16希伯活到三十四歲，生了法勒。When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17希伯生法勒之後又活了四百三十年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18法勒活到三十歲，生了拉吳。When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
19法勒生拉吳之後又活了二百零九年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20拉吳活到三十二歲，生了西鹿。When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
21拉吳生西鹿之後又活了二百零七年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22西鹿活到三十歲，生了拿鶴。When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
23西鹿生拿鶴之後又活了二百年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24拿鶴活到二十九歲，生了他拉。When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
25拿鶴生他拉之後又活了一百一十九年，並且生兒養女。And after he had become the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26他拉活到七十歲，生了亞伯蘭、拿鶴、哈蘭。When Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27他拉的後代記在下面。他拉生亞伯蘭、拿鶴、哈蘭；哈蘭生羅得。This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.
28哈蘭死在他的本地，在他父親他拉之先。During his father Terah’s lifetime, Haran died in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
29亞伯蘭、拿鶴各娶了妻：亞伯蘭的妻子名叫撒萊；拿鶴的妻子名叫密迦，是哈蘭的女兒；哈蘭是密迦和亦迦的父親。And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, who was the father of both Milcah and Iscah.
30撒萊，沒有孩子。But Sarai was barren; she had no children.
31他拉帶著他兒子亞伯蘭和他孫子哈蘭的兒子羅得，並他兒婦亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊，出了迦勒底的吾珥，要往迦南地去；他們走到哈蘭，就住在那裡。And Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai the wife of Abram, and they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans for the land of Canaan. But when they arrived in Haran, they settled there.
32他拉共活了二百零五歲，就死在。Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.
