1「此後，我們轉回，從紅海的路往曠野去，是照耶和華所吩咐我的。我們在西珥山繞行了許多日子。Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.
2耶和華對我說：At this time the LORD said to me,
3『你們繞行這山的日子夠了，要轉向北去。“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
4你吩咐百姓說：你們弟兄的子孫住在西珥，你們要經過他們的境界。他們必懼怕你們，所以你們要分外謹慎。and command the people: ‘You will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.
5不可與他們爭戰；他們的地，連腳掌可踏之處，我都不給你們，因我已將西珥山賜給以掃為業。Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as his possession.
6你們要用錢向他們買糧吃，也要用錢向他們買水喝。You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”
7因為耶和華─你的 神在你手裡所辦的一切事上已賜福與你。你走這大曠野，他都知道了。這四十年，耶和華─你的 神常與你同在，故此你。』Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
8「於是，我們離了我們弟兄以掃子孫所住的西珥，從亞拉巴的路，經過以拉他、以旬‧迦別，轉向摩押曠野的路去。So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion-geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
9耶和華吩咐我說：『不可擾害摩押人，也不可與他們爭戰。他們的地，我不賜給你為業，因我已將亞珥賜給的子孫為業。』Then the LORD said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
10（先前，有以米人住在那裡，民數眾多，身體高大，像亞衲人一樣。(The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.
11這以米人像亞衲人；也算為利乏音人；摩押人稱他們為以米人。Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
12先前，何利人也住在西珥，但以掃的子孫將他們除滅，得了他們的地，接著居住，就如以色列在耶和華賜給他為業之地所行的一樣。）The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
13現在，起來過！於是我們過了撒烈溪。“Now arise and cross over the Brook of Zered.” So we crossed over the Brook of Zered.
14自從離開加低斯‧巴尼亞，到過了撒烈溪的時候，共有三十八年，等那世代的兵丁都從營中滅盡，正如耶和華向他們所起的誓。The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.
15耶和華的手也攻擊他們，將他們從營中除滅，直到滅盡。Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.
16「兵丁從民中都滅盡死亡以後，Now when all the fighting men among the people had died,
17耶和華吩咐我說：the LORD said to me,
18『你今天要從摩押的境界亞珥經過，“Today you are going to cross the border of Moab at Ar.
19走近亞捫人之地，不可擾害他們，也不可與他們爭戰。亞捫人的地，我不賜給你們為業，因我已將那地賜給羅得的子孫為業。』But when you get close to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
20（那地也算為利乏音人之地，先前利乏音人住在那裡，亞捫人稱他們為散送冥。(That too was regarded as the land of the Rephaim, who used to live there, though the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
21那民眾多，身體高大，像亞衲人一樣，但耶和華從亞捫人面前除滅他們，亞捫人就得了他們的地，接著居住。They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
22正如耶和華從前為住西珥的以掃子孫將何利人從他們面前除滅、他們得了何利人的地、接著居住一樣，直到今日。just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
23從迦斐託出來的迦斐託人將先前住在鄉村直到迦薩的亞衛人除滅，接著居住。）And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, were destroyed by the Caphtorites, who came out of Caphtor and settled in their place.)
24你們起來前往，過；我已將亞摩利人希實本王和他的地交在你手中，你要與他爭戰，得他的地為業。“Arise, set out, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.
25從今日起，我要使天下萬民聽見你的名聲都驚恐懼怕，且因你發顫傷慟。」This very day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and tremble in anguish because of you.”
26「我從基底莫的曠野差遣使者去見希實本王西宏，用和睦的話說：So from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of Heshbon, saying,
27『求你容我從你的地經過，只走大道，不偏左右。“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
28你可以賣糧給我吃，也可以賣水給我喝，只要容我步行過去，You can sell us food to eat and water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,
29就如住西珥的以掃子孫和住亞珥的摩押人待我一樣，等我過了約旦河，好進入耶和華─我們 神所賜給我們的地。』just as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for us, until we cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.”
30但希實本王西宏不容我們從他那裡經過；因為耶和華─你的 神使他心中剛硬，性情頑梗，為要將他交在你手中，像今日一樣。But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as is the case this day.
31耶和華對我說：『從此起首，我要將西宏和他的地交給你；你要得他的地為業。』Then the LORD said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”
32那時，西宏和他的眾民出來攻擊我們，在雅雜與我們交戰。So Sihon and his whole army came out for battle against us at Jahaz.
33耶和華─我們的 神將他交給我們，我們就把他和他的兒子，並他的眾民，都擊殺了。And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him and his sons and his whole army.
34我們奪了他的一切城邑，將有人煙的各城，連女人帶孩子，盡都毀滅，沒有留下一個。At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.
35惟有牲畜和所奪的各城，並其中的財物，都取為自己的掠物。We carried off for ourselves only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we captured.
36從亞嫩谷邊的亞羅珥和谷中的城，直到基列，耶和華─我們的 神都交給我們了，沒有一座城高得使我們不能攻取的。From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
37惟有亞捫人之地，凡靠近雅博河的地，並山地的城邑，與耶和華─我們 神所禁止我們去的地方，都沒有挨近。」But you did not go near the land of the Ammonites, or the land along the banks of the Jabbok River, or the cities of the hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
