1大衛的兒子有一個美貌的妹子，名叫。大衛的兒子愛她。After some time, David’s son Amnon fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful sister of David’s son Absalom.
2暗嫩為他妹子她瑪。她瑪還是處女，暗嫩以為難向她行事。Amnon was sick with frustration over his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed implausible for him to do anything to her.
3暗嫩有一個朋友，名叫約拿達，是大衛長兄示米亞的兒子。這約拿達為人極其；Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah. Jonadab was a very shrewd man,
4他問暗嫩說：「王的兒子啊，為何一天比一天瘦弱呢？請你告訴我。」暗嫩回答說：「我愛我兄弟押沙龍的妹子她瑪。」and he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
5約拿達說：「你不如躺在床上裝病；你父親來看你，就對他說：『求父叫我妹子她瑪來，在我眼前預備食物，遞給我吃，使我看見，好從她手裡接過來吃。』」Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
6於是暗嫩躺臥裝病。王來看他，他對王說：「求父叫我妹子她瑪來，在我眼前為我做兩個餅，我好從她手裡接過來吃。」So Amnon lay down and feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”
7大衛就打發人到宮裡，對她瑪說：「你往你哥哥暗嫩的屋裡去，為他預備食物。」Then David sent word to Tamar at the palace: “Please go to the house of Amnon your brother and prepare a meal for him.”
8她瑪就到她哥哥暗嫩的屋裡；暗嫩正躺臥。她瑪摶麵，在他眼前做餅，且烤熟了，So Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, who was lying down. She took some dough, kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked them.
9在他面前將餅從鍋裡倒出來，他卻不肯吃，便說：「眾人離開我出去吧！」眾人就都離開他，出去了。Then she brought the pan and set it down before him, but he refused to eat. “Send everyone away!” said Amnon. And everyone went out.
10暗嫩對她瑪說：「你把食物拿進臥房，我好從你手裡接過來吃。」她瑪就把所做的餅拿進臥房，到她哥哥暗嫩那裡，Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, so that I may eat it from your hand.” Tamar took the cakes she had made and went to her brother Amnon’s bedroom.
11拿著餅上前給他吃，他便拉住她瑪，說：「我妹妹，你來與我同寢。」And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said, “Come lie with me, my sister!”
12她瑪說：「我哥哥，不要我。以色列人中不當這樣行，你不要做這；“No, my brother!” she cried. “Do not violate me, for such a thing should never be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!
13你玷辱了我，我何以掩蓋我的羞恥呢？你在以色列中也成了愚妄人。你可以求王，他必不禁止我歸你。」Where could I ever take my shame? And you would be like one of the fools in Israel! Please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.”
14但暗嫩不肯聽她的話，因比她力大，就玷辱她，與她同寢。But Amnon refused to listen to her, and being stronger, he violated her and lay with her.
15隨後，暗嫩極其恨她，那恨她的心比先前愛她的心更甚，對她說：「你起來，去吧！」Then Amnon hated Tamar with such intensity that his hatred was greater than the love he previously had. “Get up!” he said to her. “Be gone!”
16她瑪說：「不要這樣！你趕出我去的這罪比你才行的更重！」但暗嫩不肯聽她的話，“No,” she replied, “sending me away is worse than this great wrong you have already done to me!” But he refused to listen to her.
17就叫伺候自己的僕人來，說：「將這個女子趕出去！她一出去，你就關門，。」Instead, he called to his attendant and said, “Throw this woman out and bolt the door behind her!”
18那時她瑪穿著，因為沒有出嫁的公主都是這樣穿。暗嫩的僕人就把她趕出去，關門上閂。So Amnon’s attendant threw her out and bolted the door behind her. Now Tamar was wearing a robe of many colors, because this is what the king’s virgin daughters wore.
19她瑪把灰塵撒在頭上，撕裂所穿的彩衣，，一面行走，一面哭喊。And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore her robe. And putting her hand on her head, she went away crying aloud.
20她胞兄押沙龍問她說：「莫非你哥哥暗嫩與你親近了嗎？我妹妹，暫且不要作聲，他是你的哥哥，不要將這事放在心上。」她瑪就孤孤單單地住在她胞兄押沙龍家裡。Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your brother. Do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar lived as a desolate woman in the house of her brother Absalom.
21大衛王聽見這事，就甚發怒。When King David heard all this, he was furious.
22押沙龍並不和他哥哥暗嫩；因為暗嫩玷辱他妹妹她瑪，所以押沙龍恨惡他。And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad, because he hated Amnon for violating his sister Tamar.
23過了二年，在靠近以法蓮的巴力‧夏瑣有人為押沙龍剪羊毛；押沙龍請王的眾子與他同去。Two years later, when Absalom’s sheepshearers were at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, he invited all the sons of the king.
24押沙龍來見王，說：「現在有人為僕人剪羊毛，請王和王的臣僕與僕人同去。」And he went to the king and said, “Your servant has just hired shearers. Will the king and his servants please come with me?”
25王對押沙龍說：「我兒，我們不必都去，恐怕使你耗費太多。」押沙龍再三請王，王仍是不肯去，只為他祝福。“No, my son,” the king replied, “we should not all go, or we would be a burden to you.” Although Absalom urged him, he was not willing to go, but gave him his blessing.
26押沙龍說：「王若不去，求王許我哥哥暗嫩同去。」王說：「何必要他去呢？」“If not,” said Absalom, “please let my brother Amnon go with us.” “Why should he go with you?” the king asked.
27押沙龍再三求王，王就許暗嫩和王的眾子與他同去。But Absalom urged him, so the king sent Amnon and the rest of his sons.
28押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們注意，看暗嫩飲酒暢快的時候，我對你們說殺暗嫩，你們便殺他，不要懼怕。這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們只管壯膽奮勇！」Now Absalom had ordered his young men, “Watch Amnon until his heart is merry with wine, and when I order you to strike Amnon down, you are to kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant!”
29押沙龍的僕人就照押沙龍所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王的眾子都起來，各人騎上騾子，逃跑了。So Absalom’s young men did to Amnon just as Absalom had ordered. Then all the other sons of the king got up, and each one fled on his mule.
30他們還在路上，有風聲傳到大衛那裡，說：「押沙龍將王的眾子都殺了，沒有留下一個。」While they were on the way, a report reached David: “Absalom has struck down all the sons of the king; not one of them is left!”
31王就起來，撕裂衣服，躺在地上。王的臣僕也都撕裂衣服，站在旁邊。Then the king stood up, tore his clothes, and lay down on the ground. And all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.
32大衛的長兄，示米亞的兒子約拿達說：「我主，不要以為王的眾子─少年人都殺了，只有暗嫩一個人死了。自從暗嫩玷辱押沙龍妹子她瑪的那日，押沙龍就定意殺暗嫩了。But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact, Absalom has planned this since the day Amnon violated his sister Tamar.
33現在，我主我王，不要把這事放在心上，以為王的眾子都死了，只有暗嫩一個人死了。」So now, my lord the king, do not take to heart the report that all the sons of the king are dead. Only Amnon is dead.”
34押沙龍逃跑了。守望的少年人舉目觀看，見有許多人從山坡的路上來。Meanwhile, Absalom had fled. When the young man standing watch looked up, he saw many people coming down the road west of him, along the side of the hill. And the watchman went and reported to the king, “I see men coming from the direction of Horonaim, along the side of the hill.”
35約拿達對王說：「看哪，王的眾子都來了，果然與你僕人所說的相合。」So Jonadab said to the king, “Look, the sons of the king have arrived! It is just as your servant said.”
36話才說完，王的眾子都到了，放聲大哭；王和臣僕也都哭得甚慟。And as he finished speaking, the sons of the king came in, wailing loudly. Then the king and all his servants also wept very bitterly.
37押沙龍逃到王亞米忽的兒子達買那裡去了。大衛天天為他兒子悲哀。Now Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But David mourned for his son every day.
38押沙龍逃到基述，在那裡住了三年。After Absalom had fled and gone to Geshur, he stayed there three years.
39暗嫩死了以後，大衛王得了安慰，心裡切切想念押沙龍。And King David longed to go to Absalom, for he had been consoled over Amnon’s death.
