1亞哈謝的母親亞她利雅見她兒子死了，就起來王室。When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs.
2但約蘭王的女兒，亞哈謝的妹子，將亞哈謝的兒子約阿施從那被殺的王子中偷出來，把他和他的都藏在臥房裡，躲避亞她利雅，免得被殺。But Jehosheba daughter of King Joram, the sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered. She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.
3約阿施和他的乳母藏在耶和華的殿裡六年；亞她利雅篡了國位。And Joash remained hidden with his nurse in the house of the LORD for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.
4第七年，打發人叫（或譯：親兵）和護衛兵的眾百夫長來，領他們進了耶和華的殿，與他們立約，使他們在耶和華殿裡起誓，又將王的兒子指給他們看，Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and had them brought into the house of the LORD. There he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
5吩咐他們說：「你們當這樣行：凡安息日的三分之一要看守王宮，and commanded them, “This is what you are to do: A third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath shall guard the royal palace,
6三分之一要在蘇珥門，三分之一要在護衛兵院的後門。這樣把守王宮，攔阻閒人。a third shall be at the gate of Sur, and a third at the gate behind the guards. You are to take turns guarding the temple—
7你們安息日所有出班的三分之二要在耶和華的殿裡護衛王；the two divisions that would go off duty on the Sabbath are to guard the house of the LORD for the king.
8各人手拿兵器，四圍護衛王。凡擅入你們班次的必當治死，王出入的時候，你們當跟隨他。」You must surround the king with weapons in hand, and anyone who approaches the ranks must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
9眾百夫長就照著祭司耶何耶大一切所吩咐的去行，各帶所管安息日進班出班的人來見祭司耶何耶大。So the commanders of hundreds did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10祭司便將耶和華殿裡所藏大衛王的槍和盾牌交給百夫長。Then the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields of King David from the house of the LORD.
11護衛兵手中各拿兵器，在壇和殿那裡，從殿右直到殿左，站在王子的四圍。And the guards stood with weapons in hand surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
12祭司領王子出來，給他戴上冠冕，將交給他，膏他作王；眾人就說：「願王萬歲！」Then Jehoiada brought out the king’s son, put the crown on him, presented him with the Testimony, and proclaimed him king. They anointed him, and the people clapped their hands and declared, “Long live the king!”
13亞她利雅聽見護衛兵和民的聲音，就到民那裡，進耶和華的殿，When Athaliah heard the noise from the guards and the people, she went out to the people in the house of the LORD.
14看見王照例站在，百夫長和吹號的人侍立在王左右，國中的眾民歡樂吹號；亞她利雅就撕裂衣服，喊叫說：「反了！反了！」And she looked out and saw the king standing by the pillar, according to the custom. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and screamed, “Treason! Treason!”
15祭司耶何耶大吩咐管轄軍兵的百夫長說：「將她趕出班外，凡跟隨她的必用刀殺死！」因為祭司說「不可在耶和華殿裡殺她」，And Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the house of the LORD.”
16眾兵就閃開讓她去；她從馬路上王宮去，便在那裡被殺。So they seized Athaliah as she reached the horses’ entrance to the palace grounds, and there she was put to death.
17耶何耶大使王和民與耶和華立約，作耶和華的民；又使王與民立約。Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.
18於是國民都到巴力廟，拆毀了廟，打碎壇和像，又在壇前將巴力的祭司瑪坦殺了。祭司耶何耶大派官看守耶和華的殿，So all the people of the land went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. And Jehoiada the priest posted guards for the house of the LORD.
19又率領百夫長和迦利人（或譯：親兵）與護衛兵，以及國中的眾民，請王從耶和華殿下來，由護衛兵的門進入王宮，他就坐了王位。He took with him the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace by way of the Gate of the Guards. Then Joash took his seat on the royal throne,
20國民都歡樂，都安靜。眾人已將亞她利雅在王宮那裡用刀殺了。and all the people of the land rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because Athaliah had been put to the sword at the royal palace.
21約阿施登基的時候年方七歲。Joash was seven years old when he became king.
