書卷介紹：約翰一書一般書信
神就是光，神就是愛，信靠祂兒子的人確知自己有永生。
當時有人離開教會，教導錯誤的道理，否認耶穌是成了肉身的基督。約翰寫這封信，幫助信徒分辨真假，並確信自己的救恩。他說明真正認識神的人會行在光明中、遵守神的命令、彼此相愛。約翰一再強調「神就是愛」，並說他寫這信是要叫信神兒子之名的人知道自己有永生。

1論到從起初原有的，就是我們所聽見、所看見、親眼看過、親手的。That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.
2（這生命已經顯現出來，我們也看見過，現在又作見證，將原與父同在、且顯現與我們那永遠的生命傳給你們。）And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3我們將所看見、所聽見的傳給你們，使你們與我們。我們乃是與父並他兒子耶穌基督相交的。We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4我們將這些話寫給你們，使你們（有古卷：我們）的喜樂充足。We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
5神就是光，在他毫無黑暗。這是我們從主所聽見、又報給你們的信息。And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6我們若說是與 神相交，卻仍在黑暗裡行，就是說謊話，不行真理了。If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7我們若在光明中行，如同 神在光明中，就彼此相交，他兒子也洗淨我們一切的罪。But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8我們若說自己無罪，便是自欺，真理不在我們心裡了。If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9我們若自己的罪， 神是信實的，是公義的，必要赦免我們的罪，洗淨我們一切的不義。If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10我們若說自己沒有犯過罪，便是以 神為說謊的，他的道也不在我們心裡了。If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
