西拿基立攻擊猶大

¹希西家王十四年，亞述王西拿基立上來攻擊猶大的一切堅固城，將城攻取。In the fourteenth year of Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked and captured all the fortified cities of Judah.

²亞述王從拉吉差遣拉伯沙基率領大軍往耶路撒冷，到希西家王那裡去。他就站在上池的水溝旁，在漂布地的大路上。And the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh, with a great army, from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And he stopped by the aqueduct of the upper pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field.

³於是希勒家的兒子家宰以利亞敬，並書記舍伯那和亞薩的兒子史官約亞，出來見拉伯沙基。Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder, went out to him.

拉伯沙基的嘲弄

⁴拉伯沙基對他們說：「你們去告訴希西家說，亞述大王如此說：『你所倚靠的有甚麼可仗賴的呢？The Rabshakeh said to them, “Tell Hezekiah that this is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: What is the basis of this confidence of yours?

⁵你說，有打仗的計謀和能力，我看不過是虛話。你到底倚靠誰才背叛我呢？You claim to have a strategy and strength for war, but these are empty words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?

⁶看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那壓傷的葦杖，人若靠這杖，就必刺透他的手。埃及王法老向一切倚靠他的人也是這樣。Look now, you are trusting in Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff that will pierce the hand of anyone who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

⁷你若對我說：我們倚靠耶和華─我們的　神。希西家豈不是將　神的邱壇和祭壇廢去，且對猶大和耶路撒冷的人說：你們當在這壇前敬拜嗎？But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?

⁸現在你把當頭給我主亞述王，我給你二千匹馬，看你這一面騎馬的人夠不夠。Now, therefore, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you can put riders on them!

⁹若不然，怎能打敗我主臣僕中最小的軍長呢？你竟倚靠埃及的戰車馬兵嗎？For how can you repel a single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

¹⁰現在我上來攻擊毀滅這地，豈沒有耶和華的意思嗎？耶和華吩咐我說，你上去攻擊毀滅這地吧！』」So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this land to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”

¹¹以利亞敬、舍伯那、約亞對拉伯沙基說：「求你用亞蘭言語和僕人說話，因為我們懂得；不要用猶大言語和我們說話，達到城上百姓的耳中。」Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, since we understand it. Do not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”

¹²拉伯沙基說：「我主差遣我來，豈是單對你和你的主說這些話嗎？不也是對這些坐在城上、要與你們一同吃自己糞喝自己尿的人說嗎？」But the Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own urine?”

拉伯沙基向城上百姓喊話

¹³於是，拉伯沙基站著，用猶大言語大聲喊著說：「你們當聽亞述大王的話。Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out loudly in Hebrew: “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!

¹⁴王如此說：『你們不要被希西家欺哄了，因他不能拯救你們。This is what the king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he cannot deliver you.

¹⁵也不要聽希西家使你們倚靠耶和華說：耶和華必要拯救我們，這城必不交在亞述王的手中。』Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’

¹⁶不要聽希西家的話，因亞述王如此說：『你們要與我和好。出來投降我，各人就可以吃自己葡萄樹和無花果樹的果子，喝自己井裡的水。Do not listen to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own cistern,

¹⁷等我來領你們到一個地方，與你們本地一樣，就是有五穀和新酒之地，有糧食和葡萄園之地。until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

¹⁸你們要謹防，恐怕希西家勸導你們說：耶和華必拯救我們。列國的神有哪一個救他本國脫離亞述王的手呢？Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?

¹⁹哈馬和亞珥拔的神在哪裡呢？西法瓦音的神在哪裡呢？他們曾救撒馬利亞脫離我的手嗎？Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?

²⁰這些國的神有誰曾救自己的國脫離我的手呢？難道耶和華能救耶路撒冷脫離我的手嗎？』」Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”

²¹百姓靜默不言，並不回答一句，因為王曾吩咐說：「不要回答他。」But the people remained silent and did not answer a word, for Hezekiah had commanded, “Do not answer him.”

希西家求問以賽亞

¹希西家王聽見就撕裂衣服，披上麻布，進了耶和華的殿，On hearing this report, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.

²使家宰以利亞敬和書記舍伯那，並祭司中的長老，都披上麻布，去見亞摩斯的兒子先知以賽亞，And he sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz

³對他說：「希西家如此說：『今日是急難、責罰、凌辱的日子，就如婦人將要生產嬰孩，卻沒有力量生產。to tell him, “This is what Hezekiah says: Today is a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.

⁴或者耶和華─你的　神聽見拉伯沙基的話，就是他主人亞述王打發他來辱罵永生　神的話；耶和華─你的　神聽見這話就發斥責。故此，求你為餘剩的民揚聲禱告。』」Perhaps the LORD your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to defy the living God, and He will rebuke him for the words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that still survives.”

⁵希西家王的臣僕就去見以賽亞。So the servants of King Hezekiah went to Isaiah,

⁶以賽亞對他們說：「要這樣對你們的主人說，耶和華如此說：『你聽見亞述王的僕人褻瀆我的話，不要懼怕。who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.

⁷我必驚動（原文是使靈進入）他的心；他要聽見風聲就歸回本地，我必使他在那裡倒在刀下。』」Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”

亞述王的恐嚇信

⁸拉伯沙基回去，正遇見亞述王攻打立拿；原來他早聽見亞述王拔營離開拉吉。When the Rabshakeh heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.

⁹亞述王聽見人論古實王特哈加說：「他出來要與你爭戰。」亞述王一聽見，就打發使者去見希西家，吩咐他們說：Now Sennacherib had been warned about Tirhakah king of Cush: “He has set out to fight against you.” On hearing this, Sennacherib sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

¹⁰「你們對猶大王希西家如此說：『不要聽你所倚靠的　神欺哄你說：耶路撒冷必不交在亞述王的手中。“Give this message to Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹¹你總聽說亞述諸王向列國所行的乃是盡行滅絕，難道你還能得救嗎？Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries, devoting them to destruction. Will you then be spared?

¹²我列祖所毀滅的，就是歌散、哈蘭、利色，和屬提‧拉撒的伊甸人；這些國的神何曾拯救這些國呢？Did the gods of the nations destroyed by my fathers rescue those nations—the gods of Gozan, Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of Eden in Telassar?

¹³哈馬的王，亞珥拔的王，西法瓦音城的王，希拿和以瓦的王，都在哪裡呢？』」Where are the kings of Hamath, Arpad, Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?’”

希西家在殿中禱告

¹⁴希西家從使者手裡接過書信來，看完了，就上耶和華的殿，將書信在耶和華面前展開。So Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.

¹⁵希西家向耶和華禱告說：And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:

¹⁶「坐在二基路伯上萬軍之耶和華─以色列的　神啊，你─惟有你是天下萬國的　神，你曾創造天地。“O LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.

¹⁷耶和華啊，求你側耳而聽；耶和華啊，求你睜眼而看，要聽西拿基立的一切話，他是打發使者來辱罵永生　神的。Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see. Listen to all the words that Sennacherib has sent to defy the living God.

¹⁸耶和華啊，亞述諸王果然使列國和列國之地變為荒涼，Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all these countries and their lands.

¹⁹將列國的神像都扔在火裡；因為他本不是神，乃是人手所造的，是木頭、石頭的，所以滅絕他。They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.

²⁰耶和華─我們的　神啊，現在求你救我們脫離亞述王的手，使天下萬國都知道惟有你是耶和華。」And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”

耶和華回答西拿基立

²¹亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞就打發人去見希西家，說：「耶和華─以色列的　神如此說，你既然求我攻擊亞述王西拿基立，Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to Me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

²²所以耶和華論他這樣說：錫安的處女藐視你，嗤笑你；耶路撒冷的女子向你搖頭。this is the word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.

²³你辱罵誰，褻瀆誰？揚起聲來，高舉眼目攻擊誰呢？乃是攻擊以色列的聖者。Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!

²⁴你藉你的臣僕辱罵主說：我率領許多戰車上山頂，到黎巴嫩極深之處；我要砍伐其中高大的香柏樹和佳美的松樹。我必上極高之處，進入肥田的樹林。Through your servants you have taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its cypresses. I have reached its farthest heights, the densest of its forests.

²⁵我已經挖井喝水；我必用腳掌踏乾埃及的一切河。I have dug wells and drunk foreign waters. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”

²⁶耶和華說：你豈沒有聽見我早先所做的、古時所立的嗎？現在藉你使堅固城荒廢，變為亂堆。Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should crush fortified cities into piles of rubble.

²⁷所以其中的居民力量甚小，驚惶羞愧。他們像野草，像青菜，如房頂上的草，又如田間未長成的禾稼。Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops, scorched before it is grown.

²⁸你坐下，你出去，你進來，你向我發烈怒，我都知道。But I know your sitting down, your going out and coming in, and your raging against Me.

²⁹因你向我發烈怒，又因你狂傲的話達到我耳中，我就要用鉤子鉤上你的鼻子，把嚼環放在你口裡，使你從原路轉回去。Because your rage and arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and My bit in your mouth; I will send you back the way you came.’

給希西家的證據

³⁰「以色列人哪，我賜你們一個證據：你們今年要吃自生的，明年也要吃自長的，至於後年，你們要耕種收割，栽植葡萄園，吃其中的果子。And this will be a sign to you, O Hezekiah: This year you will eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you will sow and reap; you will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

³¹猶大家所逃脫餘剩的，仍要往下扎根，向上結果。And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root below and bear fruit above.

³²必有餘剩的民從耶路撒冷而出；必有逃脫的人從錫安山而來。萬軍之耶和華的熱心必成就這事。For a remnant will go forth from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.

³³「所以耶和華論亞述王如此說：他必不得來到這城，也不在這裡射箭，不得拿盾牌到城前，也不築壘攻城。So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege ramp against it.

³⁴他從哪條路來，必從那條路回去，必不得來到這城。這是耶和華說的。He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.

³⁵因我為自己的緣故，又為我僕人大衛的緣故，必保護拯救這城。」‘I will defend this city and save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”

亞述大軍被擊殺

³⁶耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來一看，都是死屍了。Then the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!

³⁷亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.

³⁸一日在他的神─尼斯洛廟裡叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.

希西家病得要死

¹那時希西家病得要死，亞摩斯的兒子先知以賽亞去見他，對他說：「耶和華如此說：你當留遺命與你的家，因為你必死不能活了。」In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”

²希西家就轉臉朝牆，禱告耶和華說：Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,

³「耶和華啊，求你記念我在你面前怎樣存完全的心，按誠實行事，又做你眼中所看為善的。」希西家就痛哭了。saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

⁴耶和華的話臨到以賽亞說：And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,

⁵「你去告訴希西家說，耶和華─你祖大衛的　神如此說：我聽見了你的禱告，看見了你的眼淚。我必加增你十五年的壽數；“Go and tell Hezekiah that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.

⁶並且我要救你和這城脫離亞述王的手，也要保護這城。And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.

日影後退十度

⁷「我─耶和華必成就我所說的。我先給你一個兆頭，This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised:

⁸就是叫亞哈斯的日晷，向前進的日影往後退十度。」於是，前進的日影果然在日晷上往後退了十度。I will make the sun’s shadow that falls on the stairway of Ahaz go back ten steps.’” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had descended.

希西家病癒後的詩

⁹猶大王希西家患病已經痊癒，就作詩說：This is a writing by Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:

¹⁰我說：正在我中年（或譯：晌午）之日必進入陰間的門；我餘剩的年歲不得享受。I said, “In the prime of my life I must go through the gates of Sheol and be deprived of the remainder of my years.”

¹¹我說：我必不得見耶和華，就是在活人之地不見耶和華；我與世上的居民不再見面。I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.

¹²我的住處被遷去離開我，好像牧人的帳棚一樣；我將性命捲起，像織布的捲布一樣。耶和華必將我從機頭剪斷，從早到晚，他要使我完結。My dwelling has been picked up and removed from me like a shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a weaver; He cuts me off from the loom; from day until night You make an end of me.

¹³我使自己安靜直到天亮；他像獅子折斷我一切的骨頭，從早到晚，他要使我完結。I composed myself until the morning. Like a lion He breaks all my bones; from day until night You make an end of me.

¹⁴我像燕子呢喃，像白鶴鳴叫，又像鴿子哀鳴；我因仰觀，眼睛困倦。耶和華啊，我受欺壓，求你為我作保。I chirp like a swallow or crane; I moan like a dove. My eyes grow weak as I look upward. O Lord, I am oppressed; be my security.”

¹⁵我可說甚麼呢？他應許我的，也給我成就了。我因心裡的苦楚，在一生的年日必悄悄而行。What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I will walk slowly all my years because of the anguish of my soul.

¹⁶主啊，人得存活乃在乎此。我靈存活也全在此。所以求你使我痊癒，仍然存活。O Lord, by such things men live, and in all of them my spirit finds life. You have restored me to health and have let me live.

¹⁷看哪，我受大苦，本為使我得平安；你因愛我的靈魂（或譯：生命）便救我脫離敗壞的坑，因為你將我一切的罪扔在你的背後。Surely for my own welfare I had such great anguish; but Your love has delivered me from the pit of oblivion, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

¹⁸原來，陰間不能稱謝你，死亡不能頌揚你；下坑的人不能盼望你的誠實。For Sheol cannot thank You; Death cannot praise You. Those who descend to the Pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness.

¹⁹只有活人，活人必稱謝你，像我今日稱謝你一樣。為父的，必使兒女知道你的誠實。The living, only the living, can thank You, as I do today; fathers will tell their children about Your faithfulness.

²⁰耶和華肯救我，所以，我們要一生一世在耶和華殿中用絲弦的樂器唱我的詩歌。The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.

無花果餅與兆頭

²¹以賽亞說：「當取一塊無花果餅來，貼在瘡上，王必痊癒。」Now Isaiah had said, “Prepare a lump of pressed figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”

²²希西家問說：「我能上耶和華的殿，有甚麼兆頭呢？」And Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the house of the LORD?”

問安

⁷正如你們從我們所親愛、一同作僕人的以巴弗所學的。他為我們（有古卷：你們）作了基督忠心的執事，You learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,

為他們禱告

⁹因此，我們自從聽見的日子，也就為你們不住地禱告祈求，願你們在一切屬靈的智慧悟性上，滿心知道　神的旨意；For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

¹⁰好叫你們行事為人對得起主，凡事蒙他喜悅，在一切善事上結果子，漸漸地多知道　神；so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

¹¹照他榮耀的權能，得以在各樣的力上加力，好叫你們凡事歡歡喜喜地忍耐寬容；being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience, and joyfully

感謝父神的拯救

¹²又感謝父，叫我們能與眾聖徒在光明中同得基業。giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.

¹³他救了我們脫離黑暗的權勢，把我們遷到他愛子的國裡；He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son,

¹⁴我們在愛子裡得蒙救贖，罪過得以赦免。in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
