亞瑪力人來報死訊

¹掃羅死後，大衛擊殺亞瑪力人回來，在洗革拉住了兩天。After the death of Saul, David returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days.

²第三天，有一人從掃羅的營裡出來，衣服撕裂，頭蒙灰塵，到大衛面前伏地叩拜。On the third day a man with torn clothes and dust on his head arrived from Saul’s camp. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him homage.

³大衛問他說：「你從哪裡來？」他說：「我從以色列的營裡逃來。」“Where have you come from?” David asked. “I have escaped from the Israelite camp,” he replied.

⁴大衛又問他說：「事情怎樣？請你告訴我。」他回答說：「百姓從陣上逃跑，也有許多人仆倒死亡；掃羅和他兒子約拿單也死了。」“What was the outcome?” David asked. “Please tell me.” “The troops fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.”

⁵大衛問報信的少年人說：「你怎麼知道掃羅和他兒子約拿單死了呢？」Then David asked the young man who had brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”

⁶報信的少年人說：「我偶然到基利波山，看見掃羅伏在自己槍上，有戰車、馬兵緊緊地追他。“I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” he replied, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and the cavalry closing in on him.

⁷他回頭看見我，就呼叫我。我說：『我在這裡。』When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I answered, ‘Here I am!’

⁸他問我說：『你是甚麼人？』我說：『我是亞瑪力人。』‘Who are you?’ he asked. So I told him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’

⁹他說：『請你來，將我殺死；因為痛苦抓住我，我的生命尚存。』Then he begged me, ‘Stand over me and kill me, for agony has seized me, but my life still lingers.’

¹⁰我準知他仆倒必不能活，就去將他殺死，把他頭上的冠冕、臂上的鐲子拿到我主這裡。」So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.”

大衛哀哭並處死報信的人

¹¹大衛就撕裂衣服，跟隨他的人也是如此，Then David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and all the men who were with him did the same.

¹²而且悲哀哭號，禁食到晚上，是因掃羅和他兒子約拿單，並耶和華的民以色列家的人，倒在刀下。They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

¹³大衛問報信的少年人說：「你是哪裡的人？」他說：「我是亞瑪力客人的兒子。」And David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, “Where are you from?” “I am the son of a foreigner,” he answered. “I am an Amalekite.”

¹⁴大衛說：「你伸手殺害耶和華的受膏者，怎麼不畏懼呢？」So David asked him, “Why were you not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?”

¹⁵大衛叫了一個少年人來，說：「你去殺他吧！」Then David summoned one of the young men and said, “Go, execute him!” So the young man struck him down, and he died.

¹⁶大衛對他說：「你流人血的罪歸到自己的頭上，因為你親口作見證說：『我殺了耶和華的受膏者。』」少年人就把他殺了。For David had said to the Amalekite, “Your blood be on your own head because your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I killed the LORD’s anointed.’”

弓歌：哀悼掃羅和約拿單

¹⁷大衛作哀歌，弔掃羅和他兒子約拿單，Then David took up this lament for Saul and his son Jonathan,

¹⁸且吩咐將這歌教導猶大人。這歌名叫「弓歌」，寫在雅煞珥書上。and he ordered that the sons of Judah be taught the Song of the Bow. It is written in the Book of Jashar:

¹⁹歌中說：以色列啊，你尊榮者在山上被殺！大英雄何竟死亡！“Your glory, O Israel, lies slain on your heights. How the mighty have fallen!

²⁰不要在迦特報告；不要在亞實基倫街上傳揚；免得非利士的女子歡樂；免得未受割禮之人的女子矜誇。Tell it not in Gath; proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, and the daughters of the uncircumcised exult.

²¹基利波山哪，願你那裡沒有雨露！願你田地無土產可作供物！因為英雄的盾牌在那裡被污丟棄；掃羅的盾牌彷彿未曾抹油。O mountains of Gilboa, may you have no dew or rain, no fields yielding offerings of grain. For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, the shield of Saul, no longer anointed with oil.

²²約拿單的弓箭非流敵人的血不退縮；掃羅的刀劍非剖勇士的油不收回。From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan did not retreat, and the sword of Saul did not return empty.

²³掃羅和約拿單─活時相悅相愛，死時也不分離─他們比鷹更快，比獅子還強。Saul and Jonathan, beloved and delightful in life, were not divided in death. They were swifter than eagles; they were stronger than lions.

²⁴以色列的女子啊，當為掃羅哭號！他曾使你們穿朱紅色的美衣，使你們衣服有黃金的妝飾。O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who clothed you in scarlet and luxury, who decked your garments with ornaments of gold.

²⁵英雄何竟在陣上仆倒！約拿單何竟在山上被殺！How the mighty have fallen in the thick of battle! Jonathan lies slain on your heights.

²⁶我兄約拿單哪，我為你悲傷！我甚喜悅你！你向我發的愛情奇妙非常，過於婦女的愛情。I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother. You were delightful to me; your love to me was extraordinary, surpassing the love of women.

²⁷英雄何竟仆倒！戰具何竟滅沒！How the mighty have fallen, and the weapons of war have perished!”

大衛在希伯崙作猶大王

¹此後，大衛問耶和華說：「我上猶大的一個城去可以嗎？」耶和華說：「可以。」大衛說：「我上哪一個城去呢？」耶和華說：「上希伯崙去。」Some time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To Hebron,” replied the LORD.

²於是大衛和他的兩個妻─一個是耶斯列人亞希暖，一個是作過迦密人拿八妻的亞比該─都上那裡去了。So David went there with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel.

³大衛也將跟隨他的人和他們各人的眷屬一同帶上去，住在希伯崙的城邑中。David also took the men who were with him, each with his household, and they settled in the towns near Hebron.

⁴猶大人來到希伯崙，在那裡膏大衛作猶大家的王。有人告訴大衛說：「葬埋掃羅的是基列‧雅比人。」Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, “It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.”

⁵大衛就差人去見基列‧雅比人，對他們說：「你們厚待你們的主─掃羅，將他葬埋。願耶和華賜福與你們！So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead to tell them, “The LORD bless you, because you showed this kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.

⁶你們既行了這事，願耶和華以慈愛誠實待你們，我也要為此厚待你們。Now may the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness, and I will also show you the same favor because you have done this.

⁷現在你們的主─掃羅死了，猶大家已經膏我作他們的王，所以你們要剛強奮勇。」Now then, be strong and courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me as their king.”

押尼珥立伊施波設為王

⁸掃羅的元帥尼珥的兒子押尼珥，曾將掃羅的兒子伊施波設帶過河，到瑪哈念，Meanwhile, Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, took Saul’s son Ish-bosheth, moved him to Mahanaim,

⁹立他作王，治理基列、亞書利、耶斯列、以法蓮、便雅憫，和以色列眾人。and made him king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, and Benjamin—over all Israel.

¹⁰掃羅的兒子伊施波設登基的時候年四十歲，作以色列王二年；惟獨猶大家歸從大衛。Saul’s son Ish-bosheth was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned for two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.

¹¹大衛在希伯崙作猶大家的王，共七年零六個月。And the length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

基遍池旁的戰事

¹²尼珥的兒子押尼珥和掃羅的兒子伊施波設的僕人從瑪哈念出來，往基遍去。One day Abner son of Ner and the servants of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

¹³洗魯雅的兒子約押和大衛的僕人也出來，在基遍池旁與他們相遇；一班坐在池這邊，一班坐在池那邊。So Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. And the two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.

¹⁴押尼珥對約押說：「讓少年人起來，在我們面前戲耍吧！」約押說：「可以。」Then Abner said to Joab, “Let us have the young men get up and compete before us.” “Let them get up,” Joab replied.

¹⁵就按著定數起來：屬掃羅兒子伊施波設的便雅憫人過去十二名，大衛的僕人也過去十二名，So they got up and were counted off—twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.

¹⁶彼此揪頭，用刀刺肋，一同仆倒。所以，那地叫作希利甲‧哈素林，就在基遍。Then each man grabbed his opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his opponent’s side, and they all fell together. So this place, which is in Gibeon, is called Helkath-hazzurim.

¹⁷那日的戰事凶猛，押尼珥和以色列人敗在大衛的僕人面前。The battle that day was intense, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by the servants of David.

押尼珥殺亞撒黑

¹⁸在那裡有洗魯雅的三個兒子：約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑腳快如野鹿一般；The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was fleet of foot like a wild gazelle,

¹⁹亞撒黑追趕押尼珥，直追趕他不偏左右。and he chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.

²⁰押尼珥回頭說：「你是亞撒黑嗎？」回答說：「是。」And Abner glanced back and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” “It is,” Asahel replied.

²¹押尼珥對他說：「你或轉向左轉向右，拿住一個少年人，剝去他的戰衣。」亞撒黑卻不肯轉開不追趕他。So Abner told him, “Turn to your right or to your left, seize one of the young men, and take his equipment for yourself.” But Asahel would not stop chasing him.

²²押尼珥又對亞撒黑說：「你轉開不追趕我吧！我何必殺你呢？若殺你，有甚麼臉見你哥哥約押呢？」Once again, Abner warned Asahel, “Stop chasing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How could I show my face to your brother Joab?”

²³亞撒黑仍不肯轉開。故此，押尼珥就用槍鐏刺入他的肚腹，甚至槍從背後透出，亞撒黑就在那裡仆倒而死。眾人趕到亞撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。But Asahel refused to turn away. So Abner thrust the butt of his spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man paused when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.

²⁴約押和亞比篩追趕押尼珥，日落的時候，到了通基遍曠野的路旁，基亞對面的亞瑪山。But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. By sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

²⁵便雅憫人聚集，跟隨押尼珥站在一個山頂上。The Benjamites rallied to Abner, formed a single unit, and took their stand atop a hill.

²⁶押尼珥呼叫約押說：「刀劍豈可永遠殺人嗎？你豈不知終久必有苦楚嗎？你要等何時才叫百姓回去、不追趕弟兄呢？」Then Abner called out to Joab: “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”

²⁷約押說：「我指著永生的　神起誓：你若不說戲耍的那句話，今日早晨百姓就回去，不追趕弟兄了。」“As surely as God lives,” Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers until morning.”

²⁸於是約押吹角，眾民就站住，不再追趕以色列人，也不再打仗了。So Joab blew the ram’s horn, and all the troops stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or continued to fight.

²⁹押尼珥和跟隨他的人整夜經過亞拉巴，過約旦河，走過畢倫，到了瑪哈念。And all that night Abner and his men marched through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all morning, and arrived at Mahanaim.

³⁰約押追趕押尼珥回來，聚集眾民，見大衛的僕人中缺少了十九個人和亞撒黑。When Joab returned from pursuing Abner, he gathered all the troops. In addition to Asahel, nineteen of David’s servants were missing,

³¹但大衛的僕人殺了便雅憫人和跟隨押尼珥的人，共三百六十名。but they had struck down 360 Benjamites who were with Abner.

³²眾人將亞撒黑送到伯利恆，葬在他父親的墳墓裡。約押和跟隨他的人走了一夜，天亮的時候到了希伯崙。And they took Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb in Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and reached Hebron at daybreak.

大衛家日見強盛

¹掃羅家和大衛家爭戰許久。大衛家日見強盛；掃羅家日見衰弱。Now the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was protracted. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

²大衛在希伯崙得了幾個兒子：長子暗嫩是耶斯列人亞希暖所生的；And sons were born to David in Hebron: His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam of Jezreel;

³次子基利押（在歷代上三章一節作但以利）是作過迦密人拿八的妻亞比該所生的；三子押沙龍是基述王達買的女兒瑪迦所生的；his second was Chileab, by Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; his third was Absalom, the son of Maacah daughter of King Talmai of Geshur;

⁴四子亞多尼雅是哈及所生的；五子示法提雅是亞比她所生的；his fourth was Adonijah, the son of Haggith; his fifth was Shephatiah, the son of Abital;

⁵六子以特念是大衛的妻以格拉所生的。大衛這六個兒子都是在希伯崙生的。and his sixth was Ithream, by David’s wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.

押尼珥與伊施波設決裂

⁶掃羅家和大衛家爭戰的時候，押尼珥在掃羅家大有權勢。During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner had continued to strengthen his position in the house of Saul.

⁷掃羅有一妃嬪，名叫利斯巴，是愛亞的女兒。一日，伊施波設對押尼珥說：「你為甚麼與我父的妃嬪同房呢？」Now Saul had a concubine named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So Ish-bosheth questioned Abner, “Why did you sleep with my father’s concubine?”

⁸押尼珥因伊施波設的話就甚發怒，說：「我豈是猶大的狗頭呢？我恩待你父掃羅的家和他的弟兄、朋友，不將你交在大衛手裡，今日你竟為這婦人責備我嗎？Abner was furious over Ish-bosheth’s accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you accuse me of wrongdoing with this woman!

^9–10我若不照著耶和華起誓應許大衛的話行，廢去掃羅的位，建立大衛的位，使他治理以色列和猶大，從但直到別是巴，願　神重重地降罰與我！」May God punish Abner, and ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the LORD has sworn to him: to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”

¹¹伊施波設懼怕押尼珥，不敢回答一句。And for fear of Abner, Ish-bosheth did not dare to say another word to him.

押尼珥投靠大衛

¹²押尼珥打發人去見大衛，替他說：「這國歸誰呢？」又說：「你與我立約，我必幫助你，使以色列人都歸服你。」Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”

¹³大衛說：「好！我與你立約。但有一件，你來見我面的時候，若不將掃羅的女兒米甲帶來，必不得見我的面。」“Good,” replied David, “I will make a covenant with you. But there is one thing I require of you: Do not appear before me unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to see me.”

¹⁴大衛就打發人去見掃羅的兒子伊施波設，說：「你要將我的妻米甲歸還我；她是我從前用一百非利士人的陽皮所聘定的。」Then David sent messengers to say to Ish-bosheth son of Saul, “Give me back my wife, Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred Philistine foreskins.”

¹⁵伊施波設就打發人去，將米甲從拉億的兒子、她丈夫帕鐵那裡接回來。So Ish-bosheth sent and took Michal from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.

¹⁶米甲的丈夫跟著她，一面走一面哭，直跟到巴戶琳。押尼珥說：「你回去吧！」帕鐵就回去了。Her husband followed her, weeping all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go back.” So he returned home.

¹⁷押尼珥對以色列長老說：「從前你們願意大衛作王治理你們，Now Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, “In the past you sought David as your king.

¹⁸現在你們可以照心願而行。因為耶和華曾論到大衛說：『我必藉我僕人大衛的手，救我民以色列脫離非利士人和眾仇敵的手。』」Now take action, because the LORD has said to David, ‘Through My servant David I will save My people Israel from the hands of the Philistines and of all their enemies.’”

¹⁹押尼珥也用這話說給便雅憫人聽，又到希伯崙，將以色列人和便雅憫全家一切所喜悅的事說給大衛聽。Abner also spoke to the Benjamites. Then he went to Hebron to tell David all that seemed good to Israel and to the whole house of Benjamin.

²⁰押尼珥帶著二十個人來到希伯崙見大衛，大衛就為押尼珥和他帶來的人設擺筵席。When Abner and twenty of his men came to David at Hebron, David held a feast for them.

²¹押尼珥對大衛說：「我要起身去招聚以色列眾人來見我主我王，與你立約，你就可以照著心願作王。」於是大衛送押尼珥去，押尼珥就平平安安地去了。Then Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed Abner, and he went in peace.

約押刺殺押尼珥

²²約押和大衛的僕人攻擊敵軍，帶回許多的掠物。那時押尼珥不在希伯崙大衛那裡，因大衛已經送他去，他也平平安安地去了。Just then David’s soldiers and Joab returned from a raid, bringing with them a great plunder. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, because David had sent him on his way in peace.

²³約押和跟隨他的全軍到了，就有人告訴約押說：「尼珥的兒子押尼珥來見王，王送他去，他也平平安安地去了。」When Joab and all his troops arrived, he was informed, “Abner son of Ner came to see the king, who sent him on his way in peace.”

²⁴約押去見王說：「你這是做甚麼呢？押尼珥來見你，你為何送他去，他就蹤影不見了呢？So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he is getting away!

²⁵你當曉得，尼珥的兒子押尼珥來是要誆哄你，要知道你的出入和你一切所行的事。」Surely you realize that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to track your movements and all that you are doing.”

²⁶約押從大衛那裡出來，就打發人去追趕押尼珥，在西拉井追上他，將他帶回來，大衛卻不知道。As soon as Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah. But David was unaware of it.

²⁷押尼珥回到希伯崙，約押領他到城門的甕洞，假作要與他說機密話，就在那裡刺透他的肚腹，他便死了。這是報殺他兄弟亞撒黑的仇。When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab pulled him aside into the gateway, as if to speak to him privately, and there Joab stabbed him in the stomach. So Abner died on account of the blood of Joab’s brother Asahel.

²⁸大衛聽見了，就說：「流尼珥的兒子押尼珥的血，這罪在耶和華面前必永不歸我和我的國。Afterward, David heard about this and said, “I and my kingdom are forever guiltless before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.

²⁹願流他血的罪歸到約押頭上和他父的全家；又願約押家不斷有患漏症的，長大痲瘋的，架柺而行的，被刀殺死的，缺乏飲食的。」May it whirl over the head of Joab and over the entire house of his father, and may the house of Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”

³⁰約押和他兄弟亞比篩殺了押尼珥，是因押尼珥在基遍爭戰的時候殺了他們的兄弟亞撒黑。(Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)

大衛為押尼珥舉哀

³¹大衛吩咐約押和跟隨他的眾人說：「你們當撕裂衣服，腰束麻布，在押尼珥棺前哀哭。」大衛王也跟在棺後。Then David ordered Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner.” And King David himself walked behind the funeral bier.

³²他們將押尼珥葬在希伯崙。王在押尼珥的墓旁放聲而哭，眾民也都哭了。When they buried Abner in Hebron, the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb, and all the people wept.

³³王為押尼珥舉哀，說：押尼珥何竟像愚頑人死呢？And the king sang this lament for Abner: “Should Abner die the death of a fool?

³⁴你手未曾捆綁，腳未曾鎖住。你死，如人死在罪孽之輩手下一樣。於是眾民又為押尼珥哀哭。Your hands were not bound, your feet were not fettered. As a man falls before the wicked, so also you fell.” And all the people wept over him even more.

³⁵日頭未落的時候，眾民來勸大衛吃飯，但大衛起誓說：「我若在日頭未落以前吃飯，或吃別物，願　神重重地降罰與我！」Then all the people came and urged David to eat something while it was still day, but David took an oath, saying, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!”

³⁶眾民知道了就都喜悅。凡王所行的，眾民無不喜悅。All the people took note and were pleased. In fact, everything the king did pleased them.

³⁷那日，以色列眾民才知道殺尼珥的兒子押尼珥並非出於王意。So on that day all the troops and all Israel were convinced that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.

³⁸王對臣僕說：「你們豈不知今日以色列人中死了一個作元帥的大丈夫嗎？Then the king said to his servants, “Do you not realize that a great prince has fallen today in Israel?

³⁹我雖然受膏為王，今日還是軟弱；這洗魯雅的兩個兒子比我剛強。願耶和華照著惡人所行的惡報應他。」And I am weak this day, though anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!”

伊施波設被刺殺

¹掃羅的兒子伊施波設聽見押尼珥死在希伯崙，手就發軟；以色列眾人也都驚惶。Now when Ish-bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner had died in Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel was dismayed.

²掃羅的兒子伊施波設有兩個軍長，一名巴拿，一名利甲，是便雅憫支派、比錄人臨門的兒子。比錄也屬便雅憫。Saul’s son had two men who were leaders of raiding parties. One was named Baanah and the other Rechab; they were sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the tribe of Benjamin—Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin,

³比錄人早先逃到基他音，在那裡寄居，直到今日。because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and have lived there as foreigners to this day.

He was five years old when the report about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she was hurrying to escape, he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.

⁵一日，比錄人臨門的兩個兒子利甲和巴拿出去，約在午熱的時候到了伊施波設的家；伊施波設正睡午覺。Now Rechab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, set out and arrived at the house of Ish-bosheth in the heat of the day, while the king was taking his midday nap.

⁶他們進了房子，假作要取麥子，就刺透伊施波設的肚腹，逃跑了。They entered the interior of the house as if to get some wheat, and they stabbed him in the stomach. Then Rechab and his brother Baanah slipped away.

⁷他們進房子的時候，伊施波設正在臥房裡躺在床上，他們將他殺死，割了他的首級，拿著首級在亞拉巴走了一夜，They had entered the house while Ish-bosheth was lying on his bed, and having stabbed and killed him, they beheaded him, took his head, and traveled all night by way of the Arabah.

⁸將伊施波設的首級拿到希伯崙見大衛王，說：「王的仇敵掃羅曾尋索王的性命。看哪，這是他兒子伊施波設的首級；耶和華今日為我主我王在掃羅和他後裔的身上報了仇。」They brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who sought your life. Today the LORD has granted vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

大衛處死兇手

⁹大衛對比錄人臨門的兒子利甲和他兄弟巴拿說：「我指著救我性命脫離一切苦難、永生的耶和華起誓：But David answered Rechab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, “As surely as the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress,

¹⁰從前有人報告我說，掃羅死了，他自以為報好消息；我就拿住他，將他殺在洗革拉，這就作了他報消息的賞賜。when someone told me, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was a bearer of good news, I seized him and put him to death at Ziklag. That was his reward for his news!

¹¹何況惡人將義人殺在他的床上，我豈不向你們討流他血的罪、從世上除滅你們呢？」How much more, when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house and on his own bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hands and remove you from the earth!”

¹²於是大衛吩咐少年人將他們殺了，砍斷他們的手腳，掛在希伯崙的池旁，卻將伊施波設的首級葬在希伯崙押尼珥的墳墓裡。So David commanded his young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the pool in Hebron, but they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it in Abner’s tomb in Hebron.

在彼拉多面前被控告

¹眾人都起來，把耶穌解到彼拉多面前，Then the whole council rose and led Jesus away to Pilate.

²就告他說：「我們見這人誘惑國民，禁止納稅給凱撒，並說自己是基督，是王。」And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding payment of taxes to Caesar, and proclaiming Himself to be Christ, a King.”

³彼拉多問耶穌說：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「你說的是。」So Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.

⁴彼拉多對祭司長和眾人說：「我查不出這人有甚麼罪來。」Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”

⁵但他們越發極力地說：「他煽惑百姓，在猶太遍地傳道，從加利利起，直到這裡了。」But they kept insisting, “He stirs up the people all over Judea with His teaching. He began in Galilee and has come all the way here.”

解到希律那裡

⁶彼拉多一聽見，就問：「這人是加利利人嗎？」When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean.

⁷既曉得耶穌屬希律所管，就把他送到希律那裡去。那時希律正在耶路撒冷。And learning that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself was in Jerusalem at that time.

⁸希律看見耶穌，就很歡喜；因為聽見過他的事，久已想要見他，並且指望看他行一件神蹟，When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased. He had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had heard about Him and was hoping to see Him perform a miracle.

⁹於是問他許多的話，耶穌卻一言不答。Herod questioned Jesus at great length, but He gave no answer.

¹⁰祭司長和文士都站著，極力地告他。Meanwhile, the chief priests and scribes stood there, vehemently accusing Him.

¹¹希律和他的兵丁就藐視耶穌，戲弄他，給他穿上華麗衣服，把他送回彼拉多那裡去。And even Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked Him. Dressing Him in a fine robe, they sent Him back to Pilate.

¹²從前希律和彼拉多彼此有仇，在那一天就成了朋友。That day Herod and Pilate became friends; before this time they had been enemies.

彼拉多宣告耶穌無罪

¹³彼拉多傳齊了祭司長和官府並百姓，Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

¹⁴就對他們說：「你們解這人到我這裡，說他是誘惑百姓的。看哪，我也曾將你們告他的事，在你們面前審問他，並沒有查出他甚麼罪來；and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him.

¹⁵就是希律也是如此，所以把他送回來。可見他沒有做甚麼該死的事。Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death.

¹⁶故此，我要責打他，把他釋放了。」（有古卷加：Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

群眾要求釋放巴拉巴

¹⁸眾人卻一齊喊著說：「除掉這個人！釋放巴拉巴給我們！」But they all cried out in unison: “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”

¹⁹這巴拉巴是因在城裡作亂殺人，下在監裡的。(Barabbas had been imprisoned for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)

²⁰彼拉多願意釋放耶穌，就又勸解他們。Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again,

²¹無奈他們喊著說：「釘他十字架！釘他十字架！」but they kept shouting, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”

²²彼拉多第三次對他們說：「為甚麼呢？這人做了甚麼惡事呢？我並沒有查出他甚麼該死的罪來。所以，我要責打他，把他釋放了。」A third time he said to them, “What evil has this man done? I have found in Him no offense worthy of death. So after I punish Him, I will release Him.”

²³他們大聲催逼彼拉多，求他把耶穌釘在十字架上。他們的聲音就得了勝。But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices for Jesus to be crucified. And their clamor prevailed.

彼拉多照眾人所求的定案

²⁴彼拉多這才照他們所求的定案，So Pilate sentenced that their demand be met.

²⁵把他們所求的那作亂殺人、下在監裡的釋放了，把耶穌交給他們，任憑他們的意思行。As they had requested, he released the one imprisoned for insurrection and murder, and he handed Jesus over to their will.
