神向你所要的是甚麼

¹²「以色列啊，現在耶和華─你　神向你所要的是甚麼呢？只要你敬畏耶和華─你的　神，遵行他的道，愛他，盡心盡性事奉他，And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹³遵守他的誡命律例，就是我今日所吩咐你的，為要叫你得福。and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?

¹⁴看哪，天和天上的天，地和地上所有的，都屬耶和華─你的　神。Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.

¹⁵耶和華但喜悅你的列祖，愛他們，從萬民中揀選他們的後裔，就是你們，像今日一樣。Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day.

¹⁶所以你們要將心裡的污穢除掉，不可再硬著頸項。Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more.

神不以貌取人，憐愛寄居的

¹⁷因為耶和華─你們的　神─他是萬神之神，萬主之主，至大的　神，大有能力，大而可畏，不以貌取人，也不受賄賂。For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe.

¹⁸他為孤兒寡婦伸冤，又憐愛寄居的，賜給他衣食。He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing.

¹⁹所以你們要憐愛寄居的，因為你們在埃及地也作過寄居的。So you also must love the foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

要敬畏神，專靠祂

²⁰你要敬畏耶和華─你的　神，事奉他，專靠他，也要指著他的名起誓。You are to fear the LORD your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name.

²¹他是你所讚美的，是你的　神，為你做了那大而可畏的事，是你親眼所看見的。He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome wonders that your eyes have seen.

²²你的列祖七十人下埃及；現在耶和華─你的　神使你如同天上的星那樣多。」Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

記念神大能的作為

¹「你要愛耶和華─你的　神，常守他的吩咐、律例、典章、誡命。You shall therefore love the LORD your God and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.

²你們今日當知道，我本不是和你們的兒女說話；因為他們不知道，也沒有看見耶和華─你們　神的管教、威嚴、大能的手，和伸出來的膀臂，Know this day that it is not your children who have known and seen the discipline of the LORD your God: His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm;

³並他在埃及中向埃及王法老和其全地所行的神蹟奇事；the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;

⁴也沒有看見他怎樣待埃及的軍兵、車馬，他們追趕你們的時候，耶和華怎樣使紅海的水淹沒他們，將他們滅絕，直到今日，what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;

⁵並他在曠野怎樣待你們，以致你們來到這地方；what He did for you in the wilderness until you reached this place;

⁶也沒有看見他怎樣待流便子孫以利押的兒子大坍、亞比蘭，地怎樣在以色列人中間開口，吞了他們和他們的家眷，並帳棚與跟他們的一切活物。and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.

⁷惟有你們親眼看見耶和華所做的一切大事。」For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.

守誡命，就能進去得地

⁸「所以，你們要守我今日所吩咐的一切誡命，使你們膽壯，能以進去，得你們所要得的那地，You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,

⁹並使你們的日子在耶和華向你們列祖起誓、應許給他們和他們後裔的地上得以長久；那是流奶與蜜之地。and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.

迦南是神眷顧之地

¹⁰你要進去得為業的那地，本不像你出來的埃及地。你在那裡撒種，用腳澆灌，像澆灌菜園一樣。For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.

¹¹你們要過去得為業的那地乃是有山有谷、雨水滋潤之地，But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.

¹²是耶和華─你　神所眷顧的；從歲首到年終，耶和華─你　神的眼目時常看顧那地。It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.

順從就有秋雨春雨

¹³「你們若留意聽從我今日所吩咐的誡命，愛耶和華─你們的　神，盡心盡性事奉他，So if you carefully obey the commandments I am giving you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹⁴他（原文是我）必按時降秋雨春雨在你們的地上，使你們可以收藏五穀、新酒，和油，then I will provide rain for your land in season, the autumn and spring rains, that you may gather your grain, new wine, and oil.

¹⁵也必使你吃得飽足，並使田野為你的牲畜長草。And I will provide grass in the fields for your livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.

¹⁶你們要謹慎，免得心中受迷惑，就偏離正路，去事奉敬拜別神。But be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside to worship and bow down to other gods,

¹⁷耶和華的怒氣向你們發作，就使天閉塞不下雨，地也不出產，使你們在耶和華所賜給你們的美地上速速滅亡。or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.

把神的話存在心內

¹⁸「你們要將我這話存在心內，留在意中，繫在手上為記號，戴在額上為經文；Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

¹⁹也要教訓你們的兒女，無論坐在家裡，行在路上，躺下，起來，都要談論；Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

²⁰又要寫在房屋的門框上，並城門上，Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,

²¹使你們和你們子孫的日子在耶和華向你們列祖起誓、應許給他們的地上得以增多，如天覆地的日子那樣多。so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to give your fathers.

腳掌所踏之地都必歸你們

²²你們若留意謹守遵行我所吩咐這一切的誡命，愛耶和華─你們的　神，行他的道，專靠他，For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—

²³他必從你們面前趕出這一切國民，就是比你們更大更強的國民，你們也要得他們的地。then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.

²⁴凡你們腳掌所踏之地都必歸你們；從曠野和黎巴嫩，並幼發拉底大河，直到西海，都要作你們的境界。Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.

²⁵必無一人能在你們面前站立得住；耶和華─你們的　神必照他所說的，使懼怕驚恐臨到你們所踏之地的居民。No man will be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the fear and dread of you upon all the land, wherever you set foot, as He has promised you.

祝福與咒詛擺在面前

²⁶「看哪，我今日將祝福與咒詛的話都陳明在你們面前。See, today I am setting before you a blessing and a curse—

²⁷你們若聽從耶和華─你們　神的誡命，就是我今日所吩咐你們的，就必蒙福。a blessing if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today,

²⁸你們若不聽從耶和華─你們　神的誡命，偏離我今日所吩咐你們的道，去事奉你們素來所不認識的別神，就必受禍。but a curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

基利心山與以巴路山

²⁹及至耶和華─你的　神領你進入要去得為業的那地，你就要將祝福的話陳明在基利心山上，將咒詛的話陳明在以巴路山上。When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

³⁰這二山豈不是在約旦河那邊，日落之處，在住亞拉巴的迦南人之地與吉甲相對，靠近摩利橡樹嗎？Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh?

³¹你們要過約旦河，進去得耶和華─你們　神所賜你們為業之地，在那地居住。For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you. When you take possession of it and settle in it,

³²你們要謹守遵行我今日在你們面前所陳明的一切律例典章。」be careful to follow all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today.

約翰出生

⁵⁷伊利莎白的產期到了，就生了一個兒子。When the time came for Elizabeth to have her child, she gave birth to a son.

⁵⁸鄰里親族聽見主向她大施憐憫，就和她一同歡樂。Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they rejoiced with her.

命名為約翰

⁵⁹到了第八日，他們來要給孩子行割禮，並要照他父親的名字叫他撒迦利亞。On the eighth day, when they came to circumcise the child, they were going to name him after his father Zechariah.

⁶⁰他母親說：「不可！要叫他約翰。」But his mother replied, “No! He shall be called John.”

⁶¹他們說：「你親族中沒有叫這名字的。」They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who bears this name.”

⁶²他們就向他父親打手式，問他要叫這孩子甚麼名字。So they made signs to his father to find out what he wanted to name the child.

⁶³他要了一塊寫字的板，就寫上，說：「他的名字是約翰。」他們便都希奇。Zechariah asked for a tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.

撒迦利亞開口稱頌神

⁶⁴撒迦利亞的口立時開了，舌頭也舒展了，就說出話來，稱頌　神。Immediately Zechariah’s mouth was opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak, praising God.

⁶⁵周圍居住的人都懼怕；這一切的事就傳遍了猶太的山地。All their neighbors were filled with awe, and people throughout the hill country of Judea were talking about these events.

⁶⁶凡聽見的人都將這事放在心裡，說：「這個孩子將來怎麼樣呢？因為有主與他同在。」And all who heard this wondered in their hearts and asked, “What then will this child become?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.

撒迦利亞的預言

⁶⁷他父親撒迦利亞被聖靈充滿了，就預言說：Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

⁶⁸主─以色列的　神是應當稱頌的！因他眷顧他的百姓，為他們施行救贖，“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and redeemed His people.

⁶⁹在他僕人大衛家中，為我們興起了拯救的角，He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David,

⁷⁰正如主藉著從創世以來聖先知的口所說的話，as He spoke through His holy prophets, those of ages past,

⁷¹拯救我們脫離仇敵和一切恨我們之人的手，salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us,

⁷²向我們列祖施憐憫，記念他的聖約─to show mercy to our fathers and to remember His holy covenant,

⁷³就是他對我們祖宗亞伯拉罕所起的誓─the oath He swore to our father Abraham, to grant us

⁷⁴叫我們既從仇敵手中被救出來，deliverance from hostile hands, that we may serve Him without fear,

⁷⁵就可以終身在他面前，坦然無懼地用聖潔、公義事奉他。in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our lives.

孩子要在主前面預備道路

⁷⁶孩子啊！你要稱為至高者的先知；因為你要行在主的前面，預備他的道路，And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him,

⁷⁷叫他的百姓因罪得赦，就知道救恩。to give to His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

⁷⁸因我們　神憐憫的心腸，叫清晨的日光從高天臨到我們，because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high,

⁷⁹要照亮坐在黑暗中死蔭裡的人，把我們的腳引到平安的路上。to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

約翰在曠野長大

⁸⁰那孩子漸漸長大，心靈強健，住在曠野，直到他顯明在以色列人面前的日子。And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until the time of his public appearance to Israel.
